Default Napoleon and ATI compatibility question.

    Hello all,

I bought NTW over the summer and I have struggled to get my fps above 10 even on the lowest of settings (which renders the game totally unplayable). The problem is not with my pc. I currently am playing ETW on Ultra settings, a 1366x768 resolution, and with darthmod sized units and enhanced smoke, and in battles with 4 armies (approximately 80 units) I still manage around 30fps. I have a laptop (Hp dv6t) which more than exceeds the recommended system requirements for NTW. My graphics card is a 2GB 6770M currently running the 8.830.6.2000 driver from 4/12/2011 (the most up-to-date driver available when I first installed NTW). I have not attempted to play Shogun, so I do not know if that game works. It seems to me like there is some compatibility issue with NTW and the 6770M. I would be greatful for any help or suggestions.

    Thank you.

P.S. I just remembered that the total war games were notorious for not utilizing all 4 cores of a quad-core processor, but I am currently utilizing Process Lasso which does a very effective job of utilizing all four cores while I run any game. So, that is also not the problem.

This happened with me when playing Empire:TW. Figured it was because I had just updated the video driver, I installed the old one and it was fixed.

    Perhaps that's the problem?

Im not sure, I have no issues with my AMD/ATI products and TW. Can't speak for NTW, but ETW and Shogun are smooth as silk the vast majority of the time. If it gets bad, make sure Darth Mod and your Steam files are all working. I remember in ETW I was lagging really bad (my FPS was shot) and a fix up of Darth Mod made it fine again.

Turn some of the settings to "high" instead of "ultra" especially unit detail.

When set to "ultra" the game processes them at full quality even if their on the other side of the map. If set to "high" then the game only renders them at full quality within a certain distance. Don't worry, it'll still look great. It's just that far away units aren't going to be top quality.
