Default Newt Gingrich - his politics, moon bases etc.

So, I am immensely interested in the Republican Presidential Election - but that might seem odd as I'm a guy from the UK, right?

Well, considering I believe that America is - for better or worse - the most powerful nation (currently) in the world and (unfortunately) eminently more powerful than the United Kingdom, I see it as astute to find out as much information about the next possible - and I think highly probable - leader of the 'Free World'.

Although I am not especially enamoured with the Conservative Party currently in the UK, my political leaning is right of centre and I would have a greater proclivity toward the Republican Party than the Democratic Party.

I have looked up the policies and profiles of the candidates and it seems I'd favour Newt Gingrich over any other by a country mile.

His policies as regard to climate change, education, energy, prison reform, taxes, religion and welfare are the more prominent ones (with tweaks) that interest me.

So, asking the folks who know best...what should we expect from here on in?

Gingrich is trying to appeal to the more conservative elements like the "Tea Party", but i'm skeptical as to whether he will be much different from a centrist like Romney once elected.

He has so many ethical and moral issues that all people have to do is run a smear campaign against him and the independents will run away in droves.

Newt - in his own words:

    1. “I’m not a natural leader. I’m too intellectual; I’m too abstract; I think too much.”
~Newt Gingrich, admitting that he’s incapable of leading.

    2. “If the Soviet empire still existed, I’d be terrified. The fact is, we can afford a fairly ignorant presidency now.”
~Newt Gingrich, saying that it’s okay for the President to be ignorant.

    3. “The idea that a congressman would be tainted by accepting money from private industry or private sources is essentially a socialist argument.”
~Newt Gingrich, arguing that it’s okay for politicians to be bought and paid for.

    4. “Give the park police more ammo.” ~Newt Gingrich, responding to a reporter who asked what to do about the homeless a few days after the police shot a homeless man in front of the White House.

    5. “The problem isn’t too little money in political campaigns, but not enough.”
~Newt Gingrich on campaign finance reform -- which he currently doesn't like because Romney has more money.

    6. “I have enormous personal ambition. I want to shift the entire planet. And I’m doing it. I am now a famous person. I represent real power.”
~Newt Gingrich, showing that he's in politics for the right reason - to glorify himself.

    7. “Gingrich – Primary mission, Advocate of civilization, Definer of civilization, Teacher of the rules of civilization, Leader of the civilizing forces.”
~ Newt Gingrich thinks that Newt Gingrich is the best ever.

    8. “The most serious, systematic revolutionary of modern times.”
~Newt Gingrich as historian demonstrating egomania and an ignorance of history

    9. “It doesn’t matter what I do. People need to hear what I have to say. There’s no one else who can say what I can say. It doesn’t matter what I live.”
~Newt Gingrich, saying we should do as he says, regardless of what he actually does.

    10. “This is one of the great tragedies of the Bush administration. The more successful they’ve been at intercepting and stopping bad guys, the less proof there is that we’re in danger…. It’s almost like they should every once in a while have allowed an attack to get through just to remind us.”
~Newt Gingrich, at a book talk in Huntington, NY, April 2008, saying that Republicans should allow terrorist attacks on American soil to remind us of the dangers in the world.

    11. “Now, we don’t get rid of it in round one because we don’t think that that’s politically smart, and we don’t think that’s the right way to go through a transition. But we believe it’s going to wither on the vine because we think people are voluntarily going to leave it — voluntarily.”
~Newt Gingrich, admitting that while they won’t kill Medicare outright, Republicans will try to make it wither on the vine and die.

    12. “She isn’t young enough or pretty enough to be the President’s wife.”
~Newt Gingrich, talking about his first wife after divorcing her.

    13. “I read Men Who Hate Women and the Women Who Love Them and I found frightening pieces that related to…my own life.”
~Newt Gingrich, talking about his problems with women.

    14. “It is tragic what we do in the poorest neighborhoods, entrapping children in child laws which are truly stupid…These schools should get rid of unionized janitors, have one master janitor, pay local students to take care of the school.”
~Newt Gingrich, advocating for an end to child labor laws so businesses can fire union workers and replace them with cheap child labor.

    15. “We should replace bilingual education with immersion in English so people learn the common language of the country and they learn the language of prosperity, not the language of living in a ghetto.”
~Newt Gingrich. Two years later, Gingrich unveils a new Spanish-language website, The Americano.

    16. “The left-wing Democrats will represent the party of total hedonism, total exhibitionism, total bizarreness, total weirdness, and the total right to cripple innocent people in the name of letting hooligans loose.”
~Newt Gingrich, smearing Democrats but inadvertently providing a very accurate description of the current Republican Primaries

    17. “These people are sick. They are so consumed by their own power, by a Mussolini-like ego, that their willingness to run over normal human beings and to destroy honest institutions is unending.”
~Newt Gingrich, once again smearing Democrats but providing again inadvertently a pretty good description of himself as the above quotes demonstrate.

    18. “I think one of the great problems we have in the Republican party is that we don’t encourage you to be nasty. We encourage you to be neat, obedient, and loyal and faithful and all those Boy Scout words.”
~Newt Gingrich, advocating for hateful rhetoric and smearing opponents with lies -- except don't you dare ask him about his personal life -- only he's allowed to drag the personal lives of his opponents into politics - but it's unfair to do it to him. (source)

This could go on and on but I will not continue because . . .

Gingrich has no real ideas. Similar to Romney, he goes with the wind. All he cares about is power. He has absolutely no moral compass, his personal life shows it. It wouldn't surprise me if he and Romney both had psychopathy. They certainly give that vibe.

Newts a smart guy but a bit of an ahole. He'd make a good president but the wife issues will kill him.

As a British person, you should be concerned with his foreign policy.

Gingrich's foreign policy is pretty much your standard republican policy but probably a little more reserved than G. W. Bush.

He is going to get continuously hammered on the wife issue though.

He's an absolute deluded arse who cares only for himself and his own power, not to mention a massive hypocrite.

I think we can place 99% of politicians into that category.

Because most South Carolinians (Just like a majority of conservative southerners) are a bunch of morons and idiots, who are driven by primarily by their fears of "socialism" and by their obsession with religion. It doesn't matter if you kill 10 people, as long as you claim that you "asked" God for forgiveness, South Carolinian will vote for you.

It's pretty funny how they forgive Newt for his infidelity while burying Clinton for it.

Indeed. Conservative politics (In america at least) are a complete joke... but that's what happens when your party puts an unnecessary emphasis on moral integrity and religious righteousness in order to gain some sort of edge.

How the Hell am I over-generalizing? If I was wrong, then why how the heck did Gingrich win SC, if South Carolinians are oh-so conservative and care about "family values"? Not to mention you live in Charleston (the most liberal city in SC, but that's still not saying much). Try leaving Charleston once in a while and go to the towns and cities like greenville, and you'll see how real south carolinians think.

    Don't worry, I wasn't expecting much of a reply from a conservative doctor/businessman/CEO//Quarterback/Commando either.

Too bad there IS a significant difference, and one that republicans such as yourself will always be too blinded to see, due to the constant hypocrisy and idiocy from the people that make up the GOP.
Bill Clinton, and most other democrats, do not necessarily make themselves out to be beacons of "conservative" and "family" values, because democrats know that they don't need to kid themselves just to claim some sort of "moral" high ground (which seems to be a requirement to get nominated in the GOP? I guess actual merit stopped being a factor a long time ago).

Am I saying that Bill Clinton was an idiot for what he did? yeah, he was. But then again, he didn't parade himself to be a shining star of conservative values before he was voted into office, either.

Your sayign calling all South Carolinians morons and idiots is not over-generalizing? Just because thye have different views than you doesn't mean they are idiots. Gingrich won because family values mean to people. If i was a conservative i couldn't honestly care if you cheated on your wife. I care about how you will do as President. I guess they picked Gingrich over a flip-flopper like Romney.

Also i don't live in Charlesotn. I live in Myrtle Beach which is not liberal.

The truth of the matter is Newt is a smart guy and Romney is seen as too east coast "liberal" republican.

Glad to know I'm a moron and idiot, obsessed with my religion, and harbor a fear of socialism.
