    Default Spawning

I'm currently playing a French campaign and it's around turn 50, well I had an heir spawn in my farthest Southern border region of Zaragoza, which happens to be a minor city, if that makes any difference. My faction leader King Phillip is in the region directly on the border between Zaragoza and Pamplona, on that bridge. Now, I would think he would've spawned in my capital Paris? Why is this? His father is King Phillip's father as well, the origional King you start out with whom died in battle (he died while charging into a wall of spear militia which I've never had happen to a general before, let alone a King).

As far as I understand the process, people come of age in the city where their father was most recently located. If someones father already died then I suppose as faction heir the game would assign him to the last place the current faction leader was based.

Also, if you make a habit of charging generals and especially your king into a wall of spear militia, you are playing a very dangerous game. Sure, the impact of the charge will usually smash such a unit apart, but they only have to get a couple of lucky hits in and you are looking for a new king.

People come of age in the city where their father is. And if the father is dead, they spawn in the capital.

So I don't know what has caused this

New family members (who come of age) usually appear in the city of the same region where their father is.
Did he come of age on the same turn as the death of his father happened (I assume his father died in the Zaragosa region)? Because then he should have spawned in the city of Zaragosa after you clicked end turn.
If he came of age one turn after the death of his father, he should have spawned in the capital.

It might also, as Avatar pointed out, be so that he (the faction heir) spawned in Zaragosa city because the current faction leader was located in Zaragosa region.
Though itīs more likely he would have spawned there because the current faction leader was his brother...

No, the original King died fighting rebels somewhere in England. I think the most probable answer is, like you said, he spawned there because that's where the faction leader, his brother, is located.

Then, it must be because his brother was his closest living relative, so he spawned in the same region where he was - similar to what happens when one of your Family Members adopt someone
