I can't destroy MORDOR

I am playing on VH/VH as the high elves and I killed off the misty mountains gundungabad and isengard. But I can't break mordor. They just have so many units. I have them pinned at the black gate and the lower pass but they keep breaking out. The troll catapults and olog hais are devastating. What should I do?

Does anyone have any real advice or comments, I have sunk more hours into this campaign than I am willing to admit and I am kind of bummed that its going to end like this.

Get some artillery yourshelf.Also smiths of eregion could help against the trolls.It is just a matter of time i guess since u own half the map...

It took the Last Alliance arround 8 years of fighting. Ofcourse it takes a long time in the Third Age.

There is AI stack spam script in TATW 3.1 that makes it very hard to destroy Mordor (ans a few other) when it is weak. Every turn the script gives AI 1-3 generals with 17-19 units each for free. That way VH/VH is exactly that "very hard"

Conquer eveything around Mordor. Go for Harad first. Use siege weapons against trolls and use cavalry to attack the catapult trolls and create some kind of diversion.

What I did was wait for about 60 or something turns after defeating the orcs of Gundabad and the Misty Mountains and built a full stack of Eldarinwe units (5 of each unit 2 lancers 2 rivendell riders) and created 2 stacks of quendi and Noretirno to support it Mordor went down after I hammered it with my elite troops rather quickly. BTW you may want to take Dol Guldur and use it as a staging point early on so you can convert it to elven culture and start fielding Eldarinwe and Noretirno from their.

If you have the patients and Morder securely besieged, try going around north and hitting Rhun. Then head south and attack Morder from the east. This way you wont have to worry about garrison script at Black Gates or Minas Morgul.

This worked very well for me as Dale, attacking Black Gates and Eastern Mordor simultaneously.

Almost impossible to force the main entrances to Mordor as HE unless you establish a strong presence in the south (meaning you take a lot of provinces nearby). On my HE campaign, I beat up on Harad and took a lot of their northern provinces (around Harandor), and in doing so I actually freed up Gondor to take out Mordor one-on-one (I had already defeated Isengard). That was sort of an unusual way for the late game to play out, but I suppose going through Nurnen would be effective.

When taking on those troll cats and Olog-hai, best option is almost always to swarm with infantry. This is tougher with HE because your units are more pricey, but again if you get a few southern provinces and start churning out immediate reinforcements, you can win the war of attrition. Just make sure you absolutely ransack (exterminate + destroy production buildings) their fortresses when you seize them. Even with the AI benefits, that will still halt production of their heavy units long enough for you to make some progress into Mordor.

Not Necessarily take allot of settlements in the south just establish a colony in the south example (Take Dol Guldur since is a Citadel and it converts fast in to Elven Culture if you build the culture buildings fast) and you have as a backbone your brothers the Silvans and the start pushing from the as your base of operations in the south against Mordor or make a Colony in the Two Islands near of Gondor and Harad since the AI wont invade them and sail to Ithilien

Or you can wait and find the One Ring and send your ring bearer to destroy Mordor

One does not simply walk into Mordor.

Well what I do when I fight Mordor is this: I concentrate my armies on one point, conquer some(even 1 is enough) cities and when Mordor is building up an army in that region I draw back and destroy all buildings while leaving the city

of course always leave behind one unit of bowmen per city.
