    Default fix for 2H??

    is there ANY fix for the 2H weapon problem in vanilla? A mod would be no problem, as long as it doesnt change teh game too heavily (like SS or T3A)

    the 1,05 patch does it, but it can be troublesome though, especially if you're using a non-english edition.

    Isn't that patch for kingdoms? I installed the latest patch for kingdoms, and my Medieval II is still at 1.03. In any case, my dismounted gothic knights still get owned by Sword and Buckler Men.

    Yes, 1.5 is the latest Kingdoms patch, M2 only goes to 1.3, and the 2H 'fix' is only in 1.5 (ie only kingdoms) but it's ok, because the fix sugested works better then the official 'fix' anyway (even after the 'fix' 2H units such as Norse Axemen still get owned by elite sword+shield unist, just not as severly as before the 'fix')

    Download the Retrofit Mod. It's basically just a bugfix-mod for vanilla. But if you add the Grand Unit Addon Mod, it gets better

    the retrofit mod FIXES the problem???

    and I play the german version (the voices of the muslim and eastern europeans are great ) will retrofit work for it???

    If you don't have Kingdoms - and therefore access to all the different mods / improvments into Vanilla campaign - you could change the EDU .

    lot of non-kingdoms mods, changed the 2 hander units like Billmen or Axemen etc -- into using the Jannissary Infantry or ME Halberdier animations. So if you had unpacked your game , or you have messed around with the files before -- try that out.

    Thats what I did. Every two-handed unit, with the exception of halberd and pike units, now uses the animations of the Janissary Heavy Infantry. Billmen are utterly brutal now. I love it.

    I also changed all units that could perform Schiltrom to perform Shield Wall instead. Makes them much better, and I even had an AI unit of Spear Militia defend a bridge with it, against me. Ruled out a heroic cavalry charge.

    sorry for the offtopic, but can you guys post a pic with a unit using shield wall ? I've never seen one before (except for the pikemen); i'm sure that spear militia look sweet in shield wall formation

    it's kind of messed up - the units basically pack in so tight, that you'll see each of their spears impaling their fellow soldiers - the overlapping is too extreme. I suppose if you play around the formation spacings and everything, you may get it to be better - I know in "The Last Kingdom" (a mod, set in darkage britain/north europe) there is shield wall and it functions quite well, but I also believe these guys added all new animations and so on...

    The times I tried messing around with EDU, and 'shield-wall' with my M2tw it just seemed .. "off" , like it just didn't seem to be useful and just looked bad -- better to set Spearmen to a very dense formation instead for this effect.

    I've not had any trouble like that with it. I haven't had any trouble at all really. I've actually been very impressed with it. Spear Militia set to Shield Wall and Guard mode can take a charge from family members with few casualties, and can easily hold their own in the following melee.

    Something I noticed was that the units in Shield Wall can split into smaller groups when defending against heavy cavalry. A few get pushed back, away from the front, but maintain the Shield Wall stance. The cavalry units follows them, pushing through the rest of the formation and eventually being engulfed. They fight the spear units that they're engaging and spear units deeper in the formation attack the cavalry units on their sides.

    This happened when attacking the Scottish king in my current campaign. My spears took the initial charge then fought back in formation. It went to almost equal losses at one point. 86 spears vs 19 bodyguards. This was on Very Hard battle difficulty.

    yes, somehow retrofit fixes the problem
    Vanilla 1.3
    Stats: DFK - attack 14, def 22
    V. Guard - attack 21, def 14


    Retrofit + GUAM(I think it uses kingdoms 1.5 because when I go to options it says it's 1.5)
    Stats: DFK - attack 12, def 18
    V. Guard - attack 20, def 16


    So I don't think they fixed the animations or something, the V. Guards win in retrofit only because of the lowered stats of the DFKs

    The gold edition has no effect on the vanilla game. Furthermore, the gold edition isn't even the latest version of Kingdoms, and even with the gold edition, you still need to download the Kingdoms 1.5 patch to unlock some of the bug fixes for Kingdoms. I also have the gold edition.

    The purpose of the retrofit is to revise the vanilla grand campaign using Kingdoms. The official kingdoms (and Gold Edition) do not affect vanilla, nor do they fix the balance issues in vanilla.

    So I don't think they fixed the animations or something, the V. Guards win in retrofit only because of the lowered stats of the DFKs
    Right. That's how rebalance was done in the official Kingdoms.

    I'm not sure if other mods have made new animations for 2Handers, but it's possible.

    I tried retrofit mod but for some reason it makes all my battles super laggy. Vanilla still works smooth for me, so Im sticking to vanilla. How can I change EDU to Janissary Infantry for the fix?
    And what other bugs are there in Vanilla grand campaign?

    Find the unit you want to change, then replace whatever title is in the "soldier" section with Janissary Heavy Infantry.

    One of the bugs that I really can't stand is to do with a random disaster. If a region is hit by a flood, you can't build watchtowers in that region until it floods again. To get round it, I changed the frequency of the disasters so that they occur every 10,000 turns. I'll never see one again. YAY!!!

    To do that, go to data > World > Maps > Base > descr_disasters.

    I'm guessing it should, since I doubt the German version's EDU will be any different from the English version.
