Question regarding unit copyright

Hi all, if I wanted to modify TATW 3 units slightly who would I have to ask for permission (assuming its at all possible)? I'm talking about minor changes like editing the .texture files and changing the hue of a particular colour, yellowish-brown to reddish-brown, things like that.

If you're doing it for your own personal use, you don't need permission from anyone. If you plan on releasing anything, you need permission from the original creators.

King Kong:
Gondor, Harad, Rohan, Dwarves, Dale, Mordor, Orcs of the Misty Mountains, Orcs of Gundabad, Eridaor, Arnor, a handful of other units

Disgruntled Goat:
Rhun, Eriador, Arnor

Alletun:
Isengard

Louis_Lux (As well as Razor, Lu_Bu, myself and perhaps others):
High Elves

SHREDDER made the Silvan Elves but he doesn't require permission to use his work.

Incidentally, is there any chance King Kong might grant permission? I've contacted him via e-mail and pm and he hasn't replied..

Sometimes he replies fast but more often it takes some time, just be patient.

from what ive talked to of the team, theres a decent chance.
KK gave me permission to edit some units when i asked, so did DG.
LL, i feel might be less inclined, he asked me not to edit the models i used in frogs, but hes always granted me permission to use his work when asked, so id say he might agree aswell.

It can take quite some time till KK anwsers

And the chances are rather high you get permission i guess

as long as you give credits and are friendly etc

Of course I'll give the man credit, they're his units

. Like I said they're relatively minor changes. I basically changed (mostly desaturated) some colours in the .texture files of Gondor, Rohan, Slivan Elves, and High Elves' units. To me, they look considerably better. Part of the reason why I want to post them is so I can maybe get feedback as to whether others find these as improvements.

With Gondor, I basically de-blueified it.

Blue is now mostly grey or black. The Knights of Dol Amroth are still blue, of course, but in a different, less emphasized shade. This includes strat map models, flags, banners, sprites, the faction map in the menu, etc. On the campaign map Gondor is now white-darkgrey instead of blue-white. Militia units now look more like they belong with the Gondor "regulars", esp now with 3.1.

With Rohan, I found it strange that all chainmail textures are yellowish-brown, so I changed them to steel grey, and I also changed some of the yellow to white. The colour scheme for Rohan is a tad more in-line with Lore, being green-sliver, rather than green-yellow. The hue of the green is also somewhat less yellowish, etc.

I won't go into much detail until I have KK's approval. If the owner finds it acceptable for me to share the modifications I'll post some screenshots. The Silvan Elves' colours have been fixed-up entirely, and their colour scheme is changed to green-grey (with lots of brown). The High Elves are blue-grey, etc. I myself like very much how its all turned out
