Default Charles Taylor 'worked' for CIA in Liberia

US authorities say former Liberian leader Charles Taylor worked for its intelligence agencies, including the CIA, the Boston Globe reports.

The revelation comes in response to a Freedom of Information request by the newspaper.

A Globe reporter told the BBC this is the first official confirmation of long-held reports of a relationship between US intelligence and Mr Taylor.

Mr Taylor is awaiting a verdict on his trial for alleged war crimes.

Lets hope CIA did not involve in war crime too.

    CIA informant
I'm sure there are Taliban and Al Qaida who fit this category of person.

I'm sure the OSS had Nazi informants.

One more example of exaggeration of the CIA record.

    Informant is not that impressive.

Be honest I don't care one more war crime committed under CIA's record, since there are enough cases during Cold War for that; I just enjoy to shock those innocent Americans' mind.

    Interesting.

The interesting thing is that he is still alive, I thought he was already dead.

This has been public information for years. The new evidence corroborates it further. Taylor was educated and trained in the US. We even went so far as to turn a blind eye from his escape from prison here to support his activities in Liberia. However, as far as I know, he pretty much went complete rogue during the Samuel Doe reign of terror and the agencies severed ties. By the time he was President of Liberia after pretty much killing everyone else, he had built his own private mercenary army from massive embezzlement during arms and diamond deals.

Another case of one of literally hundreds of thousands of CIA "employees" going nuts/rogue/out of control and everyone assuming he was on the payroll while he was being a dick.

Before you ask who "everyone" is, just wait a few pages.

Soviet operatives outnumber them 5 to 1.

In fact the USA lost the Cold War in that aspect

A lot of the time they're on the payroll to be a dick.
Once a political decision has been reached to proceed with internal disturbances in Syria, CIA is prepared, and SIS (MI6) will attempt to mount minor sabotage and coup de main [sic] incidents within Syria, working through contacts with individuals. Incidents should not be concentrated in Damascus. [A] necessary degree of fear, [...] frontier incidents and [staged] border clashes [will] provide a pretext for intervention. The CIA and SIS should use [...] capabilities in both psychological and action fields to augment tension. [Funding should be provided for a] Free Syria Committee [and arms should be supplied to] political factions with paramilitary or other actionist capabilities.

    Hang on...
But now the Defence Intelligence Agency, the Pentagon's spy arm, has disclosed that its agents - and those of the CIA - did later use Mr Taylor as an informant, the Globe reports.
As an informant? Is that it?

Apparently that's all you need to be to be considered on the official payroll as a federal employee.

Globe reporter Bryan Bender told the BBC's Network Africa programme that Pentagon officials refused to give details on exactly what role Mr Taylor played, citing national security.
maybe he was just an informant. maybe he was busted out of a supermax prison by the CIA in the 1980s. he was a bastard, but he was the CIA's bastard
