Default How can I get El Cid?

    Hi all!

Well, there is a rebel general in Valencia /El Cid/ and I would like to get him, but I cannot bribe him. I gave traits to my diplomat, maybe a bigger influence would help, but still no joy... Any ideas how to get him? Maybe I could decrease his loyality somehow... and once he is mine, give his loyality traits back.

    Thanks in advance!

You could try to marry a princess to him.

Alas, Princesses can't marry rebels. You'd have to bribe him if you want him, which is quite difficult apparently... In the original MTW he could be bribed quite well I remember.

Bribing is the only way, which makes it a tricky proposition when you bear in mind he starts with a pretty solid garrison that would be quite expensive to bribe. On top of that he has high loyalty and chivalry. I forget the exact traits but I wouldn't be surprised if he has something that increases the bribe cost.

Isn't he the faction leader of the rebels? If so you shouldn't even be able to bribe him (although the mechanics may work differently for the rebels).

Rebels have no faction leader. They're not really a faction.

I've managed to get El-Cid into my armies once, and the only way to do this is through a bribe. It cost me a nifty amount of money, around the tens of thousands, but it was too damn worth it. It's El-Cid!

Well, if you're going with cheats, might as well cheat ancillaries and traits for your diplomat so he'll be a better briber.

Rebels do have a faction leader, at least I have seen some a few times

edit: I always hated El Cid because he had a of units and I had to reinforce my French invasion force first before I could attack

done it...i could attack him, kill his army, leave him alive, then he might get easier to bribe... i shall give it a try... what have you done before bribing?

Nothing. I was just lucky I guess. I waited a few turns to get quite a bit of money... And that's it.

And the answer lies in the descr_sm_factions.txt file coz they can't have princesses. Now if it's set to yes then they can engage the marriage event but now they will produce princesses as well when they come of age but rebels can't since they don't have a family tree.

but do I understand this correctly that the rebels still won't have princesses? Because they have no family tree?

Papal_states & Slave factions are special factions. They (rebels) don't have leaders, unless you were playing a mod and that rebel general was spawned through CS.

TATW, the rebel faction leader is in I guess Eryn Dolen, I've encountered him a few times as Silvan Elves.
He could be spawned though, I think the settlement is empty the first turn
