I thought I'd start a thread here about this. I don't know if there already is one, but if there is; point me towards it

Anyway! I'm a huge fan of historic films, especially movies depicting war during the 18th - 19th centuries. My thought with this thread would be to share movies about these eras with eachother, as I, apart from TW-games () love to check out new movies. And I thought I'd start off with a battle-scene from 'The Battle of Austerlitz', which, according to me, is an awesome movie.

Sadly there is no subtitles to the intro, however that is hardly necessary as soon as the pounding starts Enjoy!

The actor playing The emperor there did a fantastic mini-series in 2003, and I do believe that's what that's from. There an English version on you tube too.

I think I have a vague memory of seeing the english one a long time ago, but it may also have been an english version of "Poltava". Not sure

I remember that series. While well acted for the most part, Murat's obviously glued-on sideburns were difficult to keep a straight face at.

In other news, the best movie about the Napoleonic wars:

100,000 Red Army soldiers don't lie
Although I do admit, the second part was dreadfully boring, and finding decent subtitles is a pain in the ass.

If you are interested in Napoleonic Movies, watch "Waterloo" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0066549/
And the Sharpe Series is awesome.

I hated Waterloo, it did not do The Emperor Justice.

The uniforms from Austerlitz are horrible, they are not from 1805 at all from the glimpses I saw. I guess I make a huge deal about that. And I find it funny how in War and Peace the Russian 1805 uniforms are correct, but the French uniforms appear to be from 1812. I guess it was the Russians making the film after all, and so they took care to be as factual as possible for their own guys.

Waterloo is a good one. But a tad biased towards the British (The Dutch troops don't even make an appearance. All I saw was the British red). Also the fact the height of the movie didn't actually really happen in the battle, with the Old Guard advance. They weren't even present on the field that day.

And finally Sharpe is good, if you don't know anything about the Napoleonic Wars.

I'm not so sure about that. There were 3 Old Guard battallions on the field. Though just the middle guard attacked the centre.

And the Carbiers (Sp.) attacked La haysaunt, or it might have been hugomount. But I assure you, they were there, just did FA.
