MTW2 Left out at E3

I have just looked over the awards given by Gamespot to the games presented at E3.

Medieval TW 2 was robbed completelly of any recognition. Not even in strategy genre was MTW2 mentioned as a finalist.

My question: what happened over there? Was the competition so fierce? Has the competition progressed so much, all the while I was ignoring it?

I don't really pay attention to any other games. I always assumed that TW was best at delivering the most realistic presentation, so I ignored everything else. Are rivaling studios catching up?

Hmm...well that is quite odd...I didn't even hear a word about any strategy games at E3...on G4 atleast...

It is absurd that MTW2 wasnt even, ATLEAST, a finalist....I really cannot think of any other games that can compete against it off the top of my head. ...Perhaps CA did not have enough of the game polished to really compete with it? That would be my best guess.

Well, I do believe M2TW will be very fun, but its not really brininging anything new to the genre. Simply building on what they got. Maybe this lost them points?

To correct you, MTW2 was a runner-up at IGN. It didn't win.

Er, didn't MTW win best strategy game, or something like that? What's the different between the two (as in evolutionalry, revolutionary). Though MTWII does add alot to the TW series, the most prominent of which is the stylized melee fighting.

becuase when you make basically the same game four times in a row, but just adjust it to the current level of games(graphics and features) then it really wont win the respect the origianl games got. Even if it is considerably better.

RTW was revolutionary because it was the first of the series (maybe even the genre) to have huge battles with 3-D soldiers instead of sprites.

M2:TW was not left out, It is on the E3 list of recognized games in the Strategy category. E3 awards will not be given out until May 31st, 2006 (Wensday)

i must say TW and i mean all TW games are the best strategy games ever and there is no game that is even close to it. ... however... we must agree the newest MTW2 wont really bring anything new to the games as RTW did - just like Chormaqan said. it isnt original or new anymore, but i most definatelly agree it will be the best strategy made to play so far and there will be some improvements that will make game more realistic, more options, more factions, etc... but i think the idea is not original anymore and eventhough there is no game that could compete against TW games (from strategic, historical, political wiew) they wont get more awards if they dont think of something total new and original.
That is ofcourse my oppinion and i acually hope am wrong and that MTW2 will get awards and that new TW game will bring more new things in game as i have heared so far. - cant wait to see demo at least...

MTW2 did win awards / honorable mentions from a few sites. Of course, there are innumerable sites that give out E3 awards these days so you can't go by any of that. It's all about different preferences in the end.

Supreme Commander is the improved sequal to the immensely popular Total Annihilation game, so it will probably always win awards over TW's games. TA was mostly fast action, eye candy fun and I expect SC to be more of that.

To Sitarus Originalus PM-30+: I must disagree with you about the "best" strategy game. Even though TW's games have taken quite a few ideas from Master of Magic, a Civilization-style game, they are still not as deep as some of the old turn-based games. A big battle RTS Master of Magic would own the TW's games. And lets face it, big battles are what's keeping TW on top for most of us right now.

A recent funny thing I noticed is that the new Merchant unit that can take over a fixed object to collect a resource on the MTW2 map is an almost direct copying of the Master of Magic spirits/magic nodes strategy. The unfunny part is that TW never goes all the way with the good ideas they take so it's sometimes not as good as it was in original game. I'd like their next copying to be settler units that let us start our own towns and permanent forts on the campaign map.

The problem is Gamespot leans to originality, just look at their scores for unique games over improved ones. While I am surprised that MTW:II wasn't even a finalist, they didn't show anything really original and different. When people say RTW, Gamespot was awed by the graphic and presentation. Sure, it was only keeping with the "times" but what other games showed so thousands of troops in so much detail in full 3d? MTW:II showed the exact thing, with improved graphics, but it just doesn't have the same jump. If they demonstated something of equal calibur in "jump" as RTW they would have at least been a finalist, but they didn't. Of course since there only so much they can present with just graphics, they would have to demonstated by the campaign map or AI to show that but they didn't (nor am I sure they will offer anyway though I hope the games does though).

Well, maybe it will simply give a new gaming experience compared to Medieval 1 Total War?

It doesn't matter what TW does differently because it is not a genre of its own. It is an RTS and will be judged and compared to other RTS games.

I believe Total Annihilation won several more awards than the first MTW, so I bet Supreme Commander will be another repeat because more people want to play that kind of RTS. I don't see why you guys even care since it's just most people's preference to play a TA/SC game over what you like and give their favorite an award, he he. Game writers that base their reviews mostly on graphics are the worst of them.
