Definitely off -as for Sassanids couldn't say, as I only play Romans

Is it medium battle difficulty where the AI does not get bonues? I understand on 'hard' and 'very hard' the AI gets combat bonuses, right?

Yes, medium difficulty is recommended as balanced. I play with auto_management turned off, I love micromanagement! I wouldn't trust the AI to run a fish stall, nvm an empire!
