How to remove generals?

Hi how i can remove useless generals/commanders

basically their wages are too high and i cant remove them without going to battle and kill them.

i play TATW and i have like 8 useless generals at start which i would like to delete

Send them to the Black Gate with a offer of a nice hot cup of tea and a scone (with jam and cream) for Sauron if he will be nice? Put them on a ship and let the pirates sink it? Actually, I would put them all in one stack and it will probably beat every army it encounters, then put them in stone forts two or three at a time so they don't cost anything, until I had enough settlements needing governors to find them useful. Haven't checked whether stone forts give you free upkeep in TATW but you can buid them, at least last time I played it.

Even free upkeep in a fort you still have to pay the General's wage, just not upkeep on his Bodyguard unit.
