Default New Computer about to be here.

How would this system run Rome: Total War? (Or any other next-gen game?)

I believe that counts as a god as far as computers go. It should ( probably will) run RTW on any settings you care to throw at it.

Costs a fair bit I should think

Hehe Already got the cost taken care of. Would I have to do a bunch of stuff that helps the dual-core, or update the video card drives (I still don't know how to update video card bios for both cards.)

I doubt RTW supports dual core CPU, I may be wrong. That tends to be more modern games, and even then not many of them yet.
You will need to update the video card drivers I should think, just go on the Nvidia website 9I dont know much about Nvidia , but I assume its easy).

How much did all that cost then ?

Around $2,000, me and my dad custom built it. I looked on another thread about a guy having to go into prefrences.txt and change the CPU Affinity to 1? But anyway do you think it would still perform good running on one core?

I remember Proximus, Incinerate_IV, and myself talking about this. We were wondering how long until someone asked that question. Dont worry, it should run the game on full settings, or almost completely high. RTW doesnt take advantage of SLI, but M2:TW should. Also, I have not tested out the effects of Dual-Core in RTW. An FX-60, even one core, will run RTW amazing.

Fantastic.....also I forgot to mention my monitor situation. I upgraded from a CMC 17" Monitor, to a 19" ViewSonic VA912b with DVI-D. On the last monitor (17") we had to use an analog adapter because the video cards were DVI-D only outputs, but this time with the 19", we have the DVI-D cable so that means we won't be needing an analog adapter. I wonder if that will bring any difference in my gaming quality at all? The new monitor is 8ms response time and 500:1 contrast ratio.

I personally dont notice the difference, though it's been ages since I used a CRT screen. It is to my knowledge (and experience) when hooking your Computer up to a good TV (one with DVI, Analog, & Component ports) that Other than HDMI, DVI allows the best possible picture. I suppose it would be better than DVI, but i've used DVI for nearly 5 years now, so I dont notice a difference.

LOL! How will it run MTW2!?! Why did you even bother to ask? Bragging rights? Too funny....nice set-up though. Should be ok for the next couple of months

As for the monitor - there is a difference between analog and digital - and it is noticeable. 8ms Response time will give you some "ghosting" but your eyes will adjust after a while and you'll barely notice it (even with my 2ms I still see some blurring once in a while).

RTW will lag very much so much so that a slide show will 10 times as fast, you need a new computer.

And also about the monitor, I thought 8ms response time was good for gaming...well, I can't go back now the new monitor is here to stay.

8ms is ok for gaming. 4/2ms is good/great for gaming. Like I said though, you'll get used to it pretty quickly!
