This will be a one sided war. One side use the sword and the other a rifle. I really can't see past this.

Historically both sides had firearms. For example, the soldiers in the Satsuma rebellion, though being ex-samurai, used rifles. In the Battle of Shiroyama, which the battle of the Last Samurai movie bases itself off of, rebel samurai soldiers used rifles, and prevailed in close-quarters combat because the Imperial army had little to no close quarters training (as opposed to a lifetime of swordsmanship). Only after the rebel forces dwindled down to about 40 men did the samurai blindly charge into enemy gatling guns.

this pic is beautiful, indeed there were firearms in both sides, and modern firearms in bothsides.

Both forces used modern technology. Ironically it was the "imperial factions" of the Choshu and Satsuma who started the war because they didn't like that the Shogunate was allowing foreigners into Japan, 尊皇攘夷 "Revere the Emperor, Expel the Barbarians", but near the end they won because in part they modernized the fastest.
Here is what the last Shogun looked like, you can see he Westernized just like the Meiji Emperor

That is actually a picture of the Satsuma Rebellion, the Satsuma were one of the major forces of the Imperial Faction, but after the Boshin War, they rebelled in part to protest the rapid modernization of Japan, and more importantly for them, the loss of Samurai privileges.
The Imperial army in this photo are armed with swords, because they are actually police, and during the Meiji period, Japanese police officers were only armed with swords. About 600 policemen of the Imperial government were sent with about 3,000 Imperial soldiers to fight the rebellion. The Satsuma Rebellion was lead by Saigo Takamori, who was I believe the inspiration for the Last Samurai movie.

To the best of my knowledge the Obama-han did not play a major role in the Boshin War, nor where they known for their economic or political prowess. Their inclusion is pretty much just for Americans to get excited about the game.

Both sides used guns. Only the poorly-equipped parts of both sides used swords.
The Shogunate side had French support and a better navy.

Hmm... I see well this wont be so bad then. But I feel for the Japanese being forced to destroy there culture to keep up with modern times. old fighting for there way of culture and history. Wile the Emperor bends to US will. I will fight for the Shogun!!! lol

I'm not sure if the Obama clan is a reference to a particular real-world individual or if they're really going by history.
Ninja leader looks extremely badass, though Tsu just seems like a hattori knockoff.
Saga's probably ahead in terms of research
