Default Computer Will Not Read Jump Drive

I have an ususual situation. I need to get some relatively large files from one computer to another. To do this I was going to use my Jump Drive. However, it does not seem to read this jump drive when I put it into the computer. Here is what I have done:

    - Tried 3 different USB ports on the computer (none of which worked).
    - Sometimes a message stating "Embedded usb hardware" shows up, sometimes not.
    - This jump drive works on all other computers I have tried it on, including one with a near identical make and model.
    - I have windows XP installed, which is necessary for the use of this device.

Gods of the basement, have you any words of wisdom for me?

P.S. Just so you know, I am trying to use it on an eMachines model t3085. Thank you.

You probably need to install or re-install the driver. Windows XP doesn't always have the necessary drivers for every device.

And how does one go about reinstalling a driver? Sorry, but my computer knowledge is somewhat limited.

Well have you ever installed the driver?

In case of a re-installation, the easiest method would be to download the latest driver and install it over the current one.

And these drivers can be found on a Microsoft website, I assume? Also, are there specific drivers for specific things, and if so, which of these should I be looking at reinstalling?

No. Go to the product's website and download the related driver. What's the model number of your product?

Yes, everything that's connected to your computer, almost every part, has an associated driver. Also, everything you connect via the USB drive to your computer requires a driver. Sometimes, Windows XP has the necessary drivers and it automatically installs them for you. Sometimes, it doesn't have the necessary driver, so you have to download the needed driver for your device and install it yourself.

So then I would be going to the corsair website (company that makes the jump drive) to download the driver? Alright, thanks. And when you say model number is that in reference to the computer or the j drive? Thanks again for the help

The jump drive. You need to know the model number of your jump drive so that you can download the right driver. See if you can get it to work.

And remember, when you're installing the driver, the jump drive shouldn't be connected to your computer. After you've installed the driver, then plug in the jump drive and see if it works.
