    Default Help with money!

I love this mod and have played it several time a few years ago and have recently returned. I downloaded 4.3 and now I am having a HUGE problem with money. I am playing as England and am at war with Ireland, France and the French. Im at turn 60 and all of a sudden I am going negative every turn. When I go into the finance screen it shows that my army upkeep is at 16000. My total income is 22000 and my total expendetures are 26000.

My question is, did 4.3 change the way free upkeep is given in settlements? In the vanilla M2TW I rock financially. With this mod I am horrible and evedently I dont understand whats different.

Please help or direct me to where I can learn what I am doing wrong.

    Thanks in advance.

two options, one is naughty, other is clean...
clean: have all your military forces pulled into ireland, set high taxese everywhere, take out the irish asap, (you may lose caen and rennes to the french)... once you wipe the irish, make all the settlements into towns, seet high taxes...
if you have auto manage turned on , set it to growth for cities without garison, for cities with set it to finance.
build up the melee and longbows and get a quick alliance with norway, then prepare to take dumfries, this way you force the scotts to have only alberdon and edinburgh as the only sources of income, when building an economy, focus only on sea income, get farms or roads second, keep the armies in cities bordering wales and in dublin/dumfries full

be aggressive and take down wales asap

the naghty option is to go into desc_strat and set starting income to 1 million or kings purse (income per turn) to 10000

as england keep your assaults on a scale of 3:1, and army count ratio 3 units of melee per 1 unit of range (since range take longer to produce)...
3:1 ratio is due to the garison...
an army of 3000 crappy infantry will destroy an army of 1000 good spawned infantry in one city
don't auto battle... have armies controled by AIs set to defense and control them to be behind your main, set up 5 siege towers and 1-2 rams... set up the siege with your army and have ais then be set to aggressive stance... (careful against irish muire... might need TONS of archers) longbow men are not characteristics because you can't get enough of them early game rush, but at turn 60 i'd say get 3-2 units of them...

It's, actually, quite easy to manage England while kicking hard the Irish, the Scots and, more gently, the French. Plus, you should be able to produce a good amount of longbowmen early in the game (keep in mind that I tweaked my KGCM and I can only recruit longbows in England and Wales).

It's seems, this is really the time to re-write my walkthroughs. Hopefully this week-end, starting with England.

A few ways to lower army upkeep is to....

A: Take advantage of the free upkeep in forts (I think it's 10 units now) it will help a bunch

B: only keep units in your settlements that have free upkeep while garrisoned...the rest should be in forts

C: after doing the above you can plan ahead and save money to cover your upkeep when attacking a settlement

On another note....Always build income increasing buildings first and send your merchants to the good resources like gold, silver and ivory...takes a while to get them there but when you do you'll love the money you get from them....

I find it's more profitable to send merchants to places you can protect - no point in spending 8 years getting your merchants to some distant resource only to have them sniped by the omniscient AI 2 years later.. Playing as England I usually keep most of my merchants in Ireland and block the route to Scotland, that way I only have to deal with Ireland's merchants and I can also keep them from using their own trade notes. When all of GB is conquered and your merchants are all beefed up with the monopoly traits then I start my economic conquest of Europe.

Fighting against a lot of factions cripple your economy.Make peace with France if they don't accept, let them conquer your cities in France then take your whole army to Ireland and conquer their territories. After conquering whole Britain, attack France.

personally I use ratio of troops 1 melee 1.2 range 0.2 cavalry with England
so if I got 5 melee units then there are 6 longbow units and 1 cavalry(most likely are general) with them
Empire II and Medieval III pls

I'm not sure that building forts early in the game just to save some money on the upkeep is a very good idea.

It seems to be a sound investment for me...the money I save on upkeep outweights by far the money I pay to build them...and I only do 1 or 2 per region anyway since that would be more than enough for defense units and expansion armies

    To each its own.
It's just hard to build forts (2,000 florins each) and get your early development rolling. But hey, if it works for you...
