    Icon5 Lack of epic battles.

Hey guys, let me start off by congratulating you for bringing this incredible mod to the masses. It's easily one of the best and most visually appealing mods I've ever played.

Now, business.. As much as I dislike to admit it, there is one major flaw in the game which sort of ruins it all for me. I've reached turn 65 as Rohan, and so far there's not been one battle that left me wanting for more or got me in the "Battle for Middle-Earth" (quoting Gandalf here) mood. The largest battle I've played up until now was a 350 vs 450 (approximately) skirmish, and for me that's just not good enough. I'll admit, I'm using the normal unit scale because I'm playing TATW on a laptop. Still, this doesn't change the fact that there's never more than about six units for each side involved in a skirmish or siege.
Personally, I think the financial system is to blame, because if I station more that three units in one castle or town, I go bankrupt just by paying troop upkeep. Furthermore, the amount of enemy captains and generals seems to be pretty low. If I remember correctly, I've been besieged twice so far which is fairly underwhelming. I'm playing the campaign on A/A, because I had no idea it was supposed to be played on VH/VH.

I was wondering if there are any mods or other ways to sort of give the financial system a boost in order to increase the amount of large battles. I think this also might be a good opportunity for me to ask what the difference is between A/A and VH/VH.

    Cheers!

(Please do note that I'm a total noob when it comes to gameplay mechanics of TATW, I'm new to the community, and I haven't really had the time yet to read up on everything. )

I've never played a campaign with Rohan (not my fav faction). but on every campaign I played there were tons of huge battles. The last battle i played with my current Gondor campaign was 1500 vs 4000 (on large). Just wait a while and they will get bigger (i think)

Yup, was having a hoot with a Rohan campaign. Took out Isegard and the two Northern Orcs, built up infrastructure and went to the aid of Gondor late in the game. Then Modor, Ruhn and Harad turned on me with wave after wave of full stack elite troops. Some armies had several armoured Trolls or Elephants, etc in each force. It was a war of attrittion that I lost!! First TW game I've lost from what I would regard a normally safe position.. Gotta love that!!

Now I'm giving the Misty Mts a go.

There are free upkeep slots in towns and castles so use those and 65 turns is nothing as this is meant to be played +200 turns

Well, I suppose lack of patience might account for my settlements not expanding. How many turns is a TATW campaign supposed to last then?

Most people don't play any more than 100-150 turns, I think the most i've ever played is 170

I'm playing Rohan on the average settings and have been in many battles with thousands on each side. There were a couple of battles in which Mordor was over 3000 strong. Isengard hit me around turn 30 pretty hard and there were several big battles.

Yeah, he did a couple of turns ago. Though that doesn't change the fact that I've been at war with Isengard for 60+ turns and hadn't really noticed so until I was at turn 30.

yeah rhun takes a few turns to get tyo you usually with a full stack along with harad, ootm are probably building up for one as well as gundabad, wait a few more turns and you wil be frakked hard on edoras, usually by multiple stacks

Just surprised you're not complaining about too many large battles really! Although stack spam has been toned down nicely recently.

Be patient is my best advice, you will certainly see some large scale fighting, and chances are you'll look back fondly on this time of relative tranquillity

Out of curiosity, what is A/A difficulty? I thought there were 4 (easy, medium, hard and vey hard.)

Well it said "average" not medium. Might be wrongly translated, though.

I suppose I can always start a new campaign.

I play hard/hard as OotMM and the silvan elves have full stacks of armies roaming in my territory.

Something must be wrong with your game because Isengard can respawn full stack armies and then they have min. 3000 men in their army

I have no idea how you could not have fought a major battle in 60+ turns. I am at turn 120 as Eriador and I fought battles for the first 60 turns where I was outnumbered on average, 450 to 3500 when fighting isengard who also managed to destroy Rohan with three full stacks. But, then again this was on VH/VH. Good luck to you though when those invasion armies get there
