Well, obviously a matter of opinion, nonetheless post the one what you think the best:

I will recommend Faure’s Apres un reve. Based on an Italian love poem, and translated into French tells the tale of these lovers that meet while they sleep and escape the real world to meet in this world full of light, and then suddenly he/she awakes in a sad manner. In my opinion is possible the best love song ever composed (and by composed I meant musically speaking, although the lyrics are pretty good). The composition is very simple, a female soprano singing the song just being accompanied by a piano/cello or sometimes both in the background.

    Lyrics:

Dans un sommeil que charmait ton image
    Je revais le bonheur, ardent message;
Tes yeux etaient plus doux, ta voix pure et sonore
    Tu rayonnais comme un ciel eclaire par l'aurore;
Tu m'appelais, et je quittais la terre
    Pour m'enfuir avec toi vers la lumiere;
    Les cieux pour nous entr'ouvraient leurs nues;
    Splendeurs inconnues, lueurs divines entrevues...
Helas, helas, triste reveil des songes !
    Je t'apelle, o nuit, rends-moi tes mensonges;
    Reviens, reviens radieuse
    Reviens, o nuit mysterieuse

    Something - The Beatles

First off, I'll give some facts about it:

    • It was written by George Harrison, who got the idea from a song entitled 'Something in the Way She Moves' by James Taylor
    • Frank Sinatra called this "the greatest love song ever written."
    • George imagined Ray Charles singing this (He eventually did)
    • This Beatles' song has the second most cover versions, beaten only by Yesterday

Why do I consider it the best song? First, it doesn't limit any person's thoughts because of the word 'something'. (Though it may also represent vagueness, but let's not digress on that ) It describes a feeling that is unnamed, so the listener can insert whatever they relate to. Next, it's got a great drum intro [and drumming throughout, for that matter]. Lastly, it's a great song in general, captivating people's attention with the soothing lyrics and music.

Nah, Something is a nice song but it's not as good as songs like Come Together and The End. The problem with the Beatles is that they don't have one or two excellent songs: they have about twenty. Free as a Bird, Woman, I'm so Tired, Rocky Racoon, Rain, Get Back, Lady Madonna... I just can't decide.

Lately, I've grown addicted to Pink Floyd's The Gunners Dream, though I'm also starting to listen more to their early stuff like Apples and Oranges and Careful with that Axe Eugene. I love Pink Floyd because they've made some of the most epic songs ever. Songs like Wish You Were Here and Comfortably Numb are among the greatest Beatles songs in my best-songs-ever list.

    The best song?

That's one of the toughest questions I've been asked this week. I think for me 'best song' depends on my mood. Right now I think 'Cell Therapy' or 'Still Standing' by The Goodie Mob the best songs (It's a tie). I like 'em because they have good lyrics and a good beat. Besides that I just like the rappers (Khujo, T-Mo, Big Gipp Cee-Lo).

I hope the groups reunion album will be released soon because Goodie Mob without Cee-Lo and Big Gipp is not Goodie Mob.

    Best song? Best song?

Stairway to Heaven is in my eyes way over-rated, Kashmir, by Led Zeppelin, on the otherhand is a thing of beauty. The drums, the orchestra, the Indian feel, all blend together and create an absolutly ace song....

I Want To Conquer The World - Bad Religion

(keep in mind that it's a sarcastic song)
Hey Brother Christian with your high and mighty errand,
Your actions speak so loud, I can't hear a word you're saying.
Hey Sister Bleeding Heart with all of your compassion,
Your labors soothe the hurt but can't assuage temptation.
Hey man of science with your perfect rules of measure,
Can you improve this place with the data that you gather?
Hey Mother Mercy can your loins bear fruit forever?
Is your fecundity a trammel or a treasure?
And I want to conquer the world,
Give all the idiots a brand new religion,
Put an end to poverty, uncleanliness and toil,
Promote equality in all my decisions
With a quick wink of the eye
And a "God you must be joking!"
Hey Mr. Diplomat with your worldly aspirations,
Did you see the children cry when you left them at the station?
Hey moral soldier you've got righteous proclamation,
And precious tomes to fuel your pulpy conflagrations.
And I want to conquer the world,
Give all the idiots a brand new religion,
Put an end to poverty, uncleanliness and toil,
Promote equality in all of my decisions
I want to conquer the world,
Expose the culprits and feed them to the children,
I'll do away with air pollution and then I'll save the whales,
We'll have peace on earth and global communion.
I want to conquer the world! [x4]

One of the following (see if you can recognise them; if you can I'll add in the names and band/songwriters depending):
    Brain Damage - Pink Floyd

The lunatic is on the grass
The lunatic is on the grass
Remembering games and daisy chains and laughs
Got to keep the loonies on the path

The lunatic is in the hall
The lunatics are in my hall
The paper holds their folded faces to the floor
And every day the paper boy brings more

And if the dam breaks open many years too soon
And if there is no room upon the hill
And if your head explodes with dark forbodings too
Ill see you on the dark side of the moon

The lunatic is in my head
The lunatic is in my head
You raise the blade, you make the change
You re-arrange me till Im sane
    You lock the door
    And throw away the key
Theres someone in my head but its not me.

And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear
You shout and no one seems to hear
And if the band youre in starts playing different tunes
Ill see you on the dark side of the moon
The people's flag is deepest red,
It shrouded oft our martyr'd dead
And ere their limbs grew stiff and cold,
Their hearts' blood dyed its ev'ry fold.

Then raise the scarlet standard high,
Within its shade we'll live and die,
Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer,
We'll keep the red flag flying here.

Look round, the Frenchman loves its blaze,
The sturdy German chants its praise,
In Moscow's vaults its hymns are sung,
    Chicago swells the surging throng.

It waved above our infant might
    When all ahead seemed dark as night;
It witnessed many a deed and vow,
We must not change its colour now.

    It well recalls the triumphs past;
It gives the hope of peace at last:
The banner bright, the symbol plain,
Of human right and human gain.

It suits today the meek and base,
Whose minds are fixed on pelf and place,
To cringe before the rich man's frown
And haul the sacred emblem down.

With heads uncovered swear we all
To bear it onward till we fall.
Come dungeon dark or gallows grim,
This song shall be our parting hymn.
Sheep - Pink Floyd (See also Psalm 23)

    Harmlessly passing your time in the grassland away;
Only dimly aware of a certain unease in the air.
    You better watch out,
    There may be dogs about
I've looked over Jordan, and I have seen
Things are not what they seem.

What do you get for pretending the danger's not real.
Meek and obedient you follow the leader
Down well trodden corridors into the valley of steel.
    What a surprise!
A look of terminal shock in your eyes.
Now things are really what they seem.
No, this is no bad dream.

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want
He makes me down to lie
Through pastures green He leadeth me the silent waters by.
With bright knives He releaseth my soul.
He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places.
He converteth me to lamb cutlets,
For lo, He hath great power, and great hunger.
When cometh the day we lowly ones,
Through quiet reflection, and great dedication
    Master the art of karate,
    Lo, we shall rise up,
And then we'll make the bugger's eyes water.

Bleating and babbling we fell on his neck with a scream.
Wave upon wave of demented avengers
March cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream.

    Have you heard the news?
    The dogs are dead!
    You better stay home
    And do as you're told.
Get out of the road if you want to grow old.

That, my friend is the hardest question in existence! I am going to pick the song that means the most to me, and reflects the way I try to live my life:

    The Smashing Pumpkins - Mayonnaise

Fool enough to almost be it
Cool enough to not quite see it
    Doomed
Pick your pockets full of sorrow
And run away with me tomorrow
    June

We'll try and ease the pain
But somehow we'll feel the same
    Well, no one knows
    Where our secrets go

I send a heart to all my dearies
When your life is so, so dreary
    Dream
I'm rumored to the straight and narrow
While the harlots of my perils
    Scream

    And I fail
But when I can, I will
    Try to understand
That when I can, I will

Mother weep the years I'm missing
All our time can't be given
    Back
Shut my mouth and strike the demons
That cursed you and your reasons
Out of hand and out of season
Out of love and out of feeling
    So bad

    When I can, I will
    Words defy the plan
    When I can, I will

Fool enough to almost be it
And cool enough to not quite see it
And old enough to always feel this
Always old, I'll always feel this

No more promise no more sorrow
    No longer will I follow
    Can anybody hear me
I just want to be me
    When I can, I will
    Try to understand
That when I can, I will
In all honesty though, I could name loads of songs that are better...that one just hits a note with me. The lyrics arnt even that complex, especially compared to some of Corgan's song writing, but ... you get the picture.

    Prying open my third eye.
So good to see you once again.
I thought that you were hiding.

    Chasing the tail of dogma.
I opened my eye and there we were.
