Republican. And I find it ironic that you are commenting on american political parties with a Canadian Flag avatar...

Now to add some substance to my post;
I find problems with the Republican Party is that it can often be narrowminded and from my experience many republicans I know are narrow minded on things. My teacher doesnt even look at canidates, he simply votes for the republican. Im sure many democrates do this aswell, but I find that it seems to be a more prevelant thing to republicans. I do see the Republican side of things too though, often its simply moral conservatism that makes them staunch Republicans. There isnt much wrong with that, except a staunch faith in traditional morals may not always be correct. Just becuase somehting has always been viewed as wrong doesnt mean it neceasrly is. I find that to be the problem with many die hard moral conservatives. Again, these are simply how I see things.

Thats right it is my opinion, But my opinion is based on facts. I don't understand why people still support president bush and his actions when he has "backstabbed" his people so many times.Originally Posted by Hub'ite

I'm generally liberal minded though I agree with the conservatives on a few things (Gun control is the only thing which comes to minds, but I'm no lover of Liberman and Hillary's crusading against video game violence).
I don't like the democratic party, but it's the lesser of two evils for me.
Im definately on the right so by default Id have to pick republican but Im not 'glued' to any party, Id vote for someone I didnt necessarily agree with if I thought they were intelligent and actually believed in what they said and that their views wouldnt be damaging to the country (imo) just not what I would choose. For example I voted for Bill Clinton in Clinton/Dole race not because I agree with Clinton on much but because a) country was doing well at the time and b) Bob Dole didnt exactly represent what I believe in. Only a handful of people Id never vote for, one is Al Gore and the other is Hilliary Clinton![]()
I am currently republican, but I voted democratic in the last election. With the current state of affairs, I am going to play close attention to my vote. Politicians in general are a rotten bunch, there is no real difference between the parties anymore. They promise anything to win the election, and then break them as long as they can get away with it. And whats the biggest problem? Politicians are investigated by...you guessed it..politicians. And what happened to the media???..no more objective investigative reporting anymore. They are in bed with the corporations and are the stepchildren of the politicians.
Make my vote..Angry American

Voted for the Option "Whats a political party?", because you have no independent option. I disapprove of political parties, I prefer to look at a candidate based on his beliefs and standings on his platform, not the beliefs and standings of the party to which he belongs. I do approve of many candidates that are in politcal parties, yet they always have a platform or two that I disagree with, mainly because its not entirely theirs, its the party's platform.

Republican. Definately don't always agree, but at least they aren't the party of "What the other guy doesn't stand for".

It's interesting to note a lunatic(?) like Barry Goldwater was completely against the Christian Right's influence on the Republican party and ended up looking more liberal than the rest of the party. (woot for my Post-WW2 history course)Originally Posted by Last Roman

What is often done between republicans and liberterians, apparently, is that republicans will push a liberterian agenda in exchange for support...since in essence they are conservative on both. I for instance have ideas that go along with both, but I know that I can't accomplish anything voting liberterian. Thats just how much the two-party system sucks. Therefore, since i've just registered as a republican, I promise we'll get someone good in office next time :wink:

I'm a centrist with leftist leanings. However, that may change if the Dems do not get a spine. Maybe a third party?
A major problem of pollitical parties today is that they are corrupt. They are funded by big companies who expect somthing in return. The bush administration has been a big supporter of Halliburton (Dick Cheneys company) , and the largest contributer to the Bush campaign was Enron.

You are aware Enron gave heavily to Democrats as well right? As far as Enron goes no republican or democrat can point fingers at the other to lay blame. You say the big problem of political parties is they are corrupt (which is a valid point) and then preceed to focus soley on Republicans.....of course you are also a Canadian and really I dont know why you care so much about this anyway.Originally Posted by greek302
