Hi everyone, sorry I haven't been around lately to narrate several of the awesome things happening in my Campaign, but I've been real busy with R/L... and i see LT made a new version of 6.0
I'm still running 6.0 and I don't think I'll switch over until I beat this campaign, but I wanted to share my updated Campaign.
For starters, I left off here at ~ 250 BC, I had 2 Legions, 1st Legion was fighting in Sicily, 2nd in Northern Italy.
Since then I have managed to capture MedioledaniumaplacithingyrightaboveSegesta. In a costly battle than nearly crushed 2nd Legion, Quintus Julius, the Legate, (now known as Quintus the Victor) fought so tenacious a garrison that half the Hastati were annihilated and the Principes had barely 10% fighting strength, even the Triarii suffered severe casualties.
An auxilia legion (8 Hastati 4 Velites 2 Equites) was quickly rushed to the newly conquered town and 2nd Legion retreated back to Arretium to restore their numbers.
Since the restoration of 2nd Legion, Quintus has crushed no fewer than 27 (Yes 27) major invasions by the Gauls to retake Medioledanium(however the heck its spelled)
1st Legion, under Vibius Julius has conquered Sicily.
In a daring move he crushed two Carthaginian armies, and was about to take Lilybaeum when the Greeks intervined and allied themselves with Carthage.
4,000 Highly experienced Greek soldiers, fresh from warfare in Macedonia besieged Messana.
Vibius was left with a horrible choice, take Lilybaeum and trust that the Messana garrison can hold out, leaving no base for Carthage, or march to Messana and crush the Greek army and turn around to fight Carthaginian reinforcements.
The decision was tough, but Vibius sacked Lilybaeum, and an auxilia legion was established to defend it while he marched with all speed towards Messana.
But he was too late, the Greeks had finished their ladders and towers and rams and proceded to attack the Messana garrison.
4 Units of Hastati, 2 units of Principes, 2 units of Triarii, 4 Velites, 2 slingers, and 500 City Volunteers awaited the dawn attack.
In a battle in which the battlements were bathed in blood and the cries of the wounded were echoed throughout the city, the walls held. Barely, with Lyon of Sparta managing to smash the Western Gate and lead his Cavalry through to attempt to butcher the populace they were halted amazingly not by Triarii, but by a lone contingent of Town Watch, Slingers and Velites, out of ammunition charged with whatever weapons they could find and Lyon died a bloody death.
Over 1,000 Romans died but the Greeks would never again be a major power on Sicily, for Vibius arrived a day later and sacked Syracusae.
After a refit in Messana, Vibius joined Quintus in Northern Italy, and the two legions of Rome, Gold chevroned from fight after fight after fight crushed a further 5 Gaulic invasions, sealing Roman power in Northern Italy.
The year is now 230 BC, The great Julii faction controls 13 Provinces, 2 Highly decorated and elite Legions and 4 more legions are in training, their target is to crush the Gladiator uprising in southern Italy and reopen the trade routes between the Metropolyae and the farm rich south Italy.
This is by far the toughest campaign i've ever fought, my 2 experience Legions have yet to lose a battle, but maybe 2% of those legions are the original soldiers whom I started with. The Generals each have 3 silver chevrons, most of the rest of the legions are gold and who aren't gold are just about there.
You never ever want to watch Quintus perform a Night Attack, he gets something on the order of 15 or so Command Stars for attacking at Night while commanding Infantry. (Yikes!)
I love this mod, and while I haven't had a whole lot of time until this past weekend to play it, it is a wonderful game.
