Default "Bonjour, je m'appelle Mitt Romney." quoth Satan

"Massachusetts moderate Mitt Romney - he'll say anything to win. Anything," warns the narrator. "And just like John Kerry he speaks French, too."

The ad, released by rival Newt Gingrich, seeks to draw unflattering parallels between Mr Romney and another Massachusetts politician, John Kerry.

Is it simply the freedom fries trauma, or Newt implies that Romney is "speaking in tongues"?

Desperation aside, the fact that some political strategists believe that such arguments will sway republican voters, demonstrates their opinion about the IQ of Republican voters.

Ya this is not good for republicans who want people to think their base is intellectual.

Then again Gingrich is an idiot I don't know one republican that supports him.

Well there's my chances of ever running for president gone.

I couldn't actually believe this until I watched the video. I suppose the incurably stupid are also a voting demographic.

I'm hoping the mouth-breathing mountain dew drinking demographic fall for it and then vote for Ron Paul instead.

    You forgot NASCAR-watching.

Seriously, though, The Onion couldn't have done better than this if they tried.

I hate seeing ads like this on TV. It reminds me to be increasingly cynical and despondent regarding the upcoming political kerfuffle.

    Michael Moore?

(although hysterically that stereotype does fit a family friend of ultra conservatives and racists)

That's weird. I thought America was a country of a variety of immigrants where people came speaking all sorts of languages.

You'd think that being well educated would be an attractive quality in a presidential candidate... Guess not.

And didn't Benjamin Franklin speak French? Along with German and Latin? I wonder what Newt's opinion on one of the most important Founding Fathers is.

I honestly don't know how you Yanks put up with the theatre of a presidential election...I mean our politicians are socially inept, draconian oligarchs - we sling some mud, but at the end of the day apathy rules and the status quo is maintained by a slightly different shade of colour.

But you guys - it's like a soap opera and a teen drama rolled into a music video and an advert for washing powder...

multi-culturalism is only an issue in republican races
I'm pretty sure entire democratic policies, and some elements of their general mission statement, have been built on the concept of multiculturalism so it is most certainly an issue.

That said, addressing the OP, lets assume for a moment that the analysts are correct. Republican voters can, and will, be swayed by a mildly xenophobic attack espoused by a rather suspect and desperate campaign.

On the flip-side of that coin all you have to do to rally the Democratic troops is toss the words "reform", "change" or "prosperity" into every third sentence and use any of the three as catch words. Even completely devoid of meaning that stratagem appears to have worked at least once in the last decade.
