U.S. Carrier Group Sends a Message to Iran

A new aircraft carrier strike group has entered the Arabian Sea and another is on its way, a Pentagon official said in a news briefing Wednesday -- a shuffling of the U.S. fleet amid rising tensions with Iran.
Officials said there is no connection between the fleet movements and threats from Iran, however, the arrival of the USS Carl Vinson comes on the heels of Iranian military exercises in the Persian Gulf and threats to block the Strait of Hormuz, a major oil transit route.
And the killing of an Iranian nuclear scientist in Tehran on Wednesday further escalated tensions, as the Obama administration denied any role in the death.

To me it looks like the U.S. is saying, "Nahhh, it isn't because of trouble with Iran. Because they're not givin us any trouble, are you Iran?

But with tensions getting worse (ie. death of scientist, military exercises, and the Strait of Hormuz) do you think this is a sign that we are moving closer to war. And with China expanding its naval presence in the Pacific--God forbid--another two-front World War? I'm not trying to fear monger, but what are everyone's views on the possibility?

Until the election is over, nothing will happen. Obama won't risk going to war on an election year. He would wait until next year. If he wins.

Hate to say it Phier, but if Mitt Romney is the best the GOP has, then Obama wont need the removalist trucks for another four years. Obama is a very shrewd and cunning political operator who will wipe the floor with Mitt Romney. It's just another McCain, and McCain was better and more capable than Romney is.

The only chance is that there is such a huge protest vote that they would vote anyone in, and thats a big ask.

McCain was rash and lacked charisma. Romney is intelligent and has charisma. In no way shape or form was McCain more capable than Romney.

Obama is already launching some guns at Romney because he knows Romney is the only true threat to his presidency.

Apparently it eludes people as to how much this is out of Obama's control. It has nothing to do with politics whether the US acts or not. Obama has adopted the UN approach. I think that is pretty obvious. Hell, even Bush's generals adopted that approach, so it was well entrenched by the time Obama took office.

And I just don't understand why the fact that these carrier groups' primary mission is supporting OEF, is never mentioned. Iran didn't have a problem ten years ago. Or even six years ago.
