    Default rebel_standard_index

    Hi,

this setting in descr_cultures.txt seems akin to the one in standard_index in descr_sm_factions.txt:

    culture southern_european
    portrait_mapping southern_european
    rebel_standard_index 0

Am I right to assume that the number in descr_cultures define the rebel standard (for given culture) relative to the base rebel standard in descr_sm_factions?

Looking over the vanilla files for strat map standards it seems the case since by the 7th and 8th file there are loads of clones rebel standards which might be there because of this setting in descr_cultures.

On related note, in descr_sm_factions there are two entries for symbols:

    symbol models_strat/symbol_england.CAS
    rebel_symbol models_strat/symbol_rebels.CAS

The first is obvious and is the symbol you get when the settlement/fort is unoccupied. But when is the other used? Is it ever used?

Thanks for any insight into this!

Yes your assumption is right about the descr_cultures.txt file. In the data\banners folder there are 2 files that contains all the rebel symbols; these files are named symbols7.tga and symbols8.tga. Their positions as you have guessed is defined by the culture file. 0 means top left and then it goes clockwise. So you can change the rebel banners according to the culture type.
    0 1
    2 3
    ^---Arrangement in said tga file.

And as for the other question it isn't exactly used as rebel settlement is never vacant but when you place a new settlement during mapping and forget to place a rebel army that .cas is used by the game, so it has its use but normally it's not used since rebel settlements are seldom vacant.
