US Marines Urinate on Taliban Corpses

The Marine Corps said on Wednesday it would investigate a video showing what appear to be American forces in Afghanistan urinating on the bodies of dead Taliban fighters.

The video could aggravate anti-American sentiment in Afghanistan after a decade of a war that has seen other cases of abuse. The Marine video release comes at a sensitive moment, with Washington trying to promote Afghan reconciliation as U.S. troops gradually withdraw from the country.

The video, which was posted on YouTube and other websites, shows four men in camouflage Marine combat uniforms urinating on three corpses.

One of them jokes: "Have a nice day, buddy." Another makes a lewd joke.



I thought this is what they did in the Air Force?

As far as I'm concerned, this stuff has been happening in war for millenia and US Marines are just as human as anyone else; however, recording it and pasting it on the internet? That's some kind of low.

I think we all know by now that these things happen by the US army. At least the victims were dead and were enemy combatants and not civilians, but of course it still gives no excuse.

This. If it had been live prisoners I would have been calling for more, but it was symbolic defilement of enemy dead, not actual mutilation, filming it was a full on no holds bar retard moment.

Yeah I agree. I empathize with the soldiers. What these guys are shooting at them maybe they lost some friends to the Taliban. So they vented this way. But it is highly unprofessional and makes their organization look bad.

Sorry to bring this all the way back to post #4, but I just read an article which reminded me of your post, Jin. I was wondering if you not being surprised by this sort of behaviour was linked to your remark that they looked like a sniper team, or whether you were simply speculating as to their identity rather than making a comment that sniper teams generally behave worse.

I also just finished reading American Sniper, and if you can get through this guys big Texas attitude, it's a decent read.

My experiences do not not mirror what Jin said, but I was also basically at the tail end of a different generation of Marines who didn't spend a decade in and out of two wars. Having basic discussions with these younger guys makes my time feel a lot different.
