    Default Ok...WTF!!

So I'm playing as Eriador, pretty much just chillin. Blitzed OoG and allied with Isengard to prevent war, so pretty much hangin out, built up a great economy, for fun put together a dunedain stack, basically just waiting to reunite Arnor. It's like turn 76 and I decide to toggle_fow see whats going on and Rohan has gotten its ass kicked by Isengard and Mordor. I hurry and try to send a diplomat to them to try and cheat them back into it (give them tons of money basically) and of course by the time I get to them they're down to just Limlight Fort (which is still a motte & bailey) which is now being beseiged by Isengard. The beseiging army is a general and berserker unit, supported by a general w/ 2 uruk crossbow and a dunland clansmen. Also right by is a mordor army with a general and 4 units, one of which is uruks. I decide to try and bribe away a general to turn around n kick these armies away and then give Rohan tons of cash, bring my dunedain army down and start taking settlements and giving them back to Rohan. But it keeps saying "just rejected" (I save before every bribe attempt), for ALL 3 of the generals. So I start money cheating to try and bribe them, I get my gold to OVER 1,000,000!! And STILL they "just rejected". I mean WTF! The only thing I can think of is that I'm not at war with either of them (still technically allied with Isengard and neutral with Mordor), but I really didn't think that mattered. Their loyalty is pretty high on all 3, but still 1,000,000 gold and still no bribe?? Come onnnn. Can someone please explain this?

Seems to be one of the side effects of the way they manipulated the ai into being a reliable ally is that sometimes they wont accept even the best deals. I had a situation when even if I offered every single settlement I could (20+ at that stage including Isenguard, Imladris, Tharbad, Duneard etc etc) Eriador still thought that my asking for the small town of Hoarwell was, at best, demanding Doesn't seem much you can do about it except keep a closer eye on your bedfellows next time to make sure they dont get out of hand.

The desire to rebel is based off of the king's authority and the general's loyalty. Orcs tend to have high starters in both.

Orcs are honourable creatures. One does not simply bribe them!

I am glad, it's a bit harder to bribe in TATW than in vanilla M2TW. It somehow doesn't fit into middle earth. Anyone who bribed Gandalf?

You can't bribe a faction leader... So that's not Aragorn.

Serves you right for allying with the enemy and not taking part in the larger war.

Playing eriador, seems a shame to play offensively, destroy most factions, and only then make the transition to Arnor nice to leave some room for expansion once you become more powerful!
Of course, this is a defensive player speaking! I like fighting, but I also want to be ready to fight- I don't want to rush in and completely ruin my campaign

I think he is talking about a guy in the books. IIRC the one who (may have) tipped off the Nazgul that Frodo Baggins was in Bree.

MTW2's random chance system is a strange puppy. Either you have a really bad chance at succeeding or a good chance at succeeding, as a modifier, and then it depends on the factors as loyalty and such. You can do some simple thing as assassination of a stack with just a unit-captain, if you first don't succeed reload and try again. This will somehow give you a new base-chance, but after that one reload it is set for that base-chance. If you do not succeed then use another agent, anyone, to do anything and he will almost certainly fail because of this.

Now you've "used" that bad base-chance and you are presented with another, maybe it's a good chance this time. And so on. But even so, it is as said earlier further modified in the end by loyalty and such.

As for bribing. Back in 2.1 I wondered about the same thing and I wanted to find out how much money it really took so I saved my game and gave me loads of cash and gave up around 2 mill. Strange thing later on, I found a lone Orc general with no units just standing close to one of my cities and thought why not and I bribed him for 40000 gold only. Go figure.

Bad title? Oh I'm sorry am I implying too many bad words for you? Maybe you should learn to spell while you're at it.

The only reason why I looked inside this thread was because after reading that title my thaught was:
"What the heck does he want?"

Maybe you should not think that people on the internet are able to read your mind!
Maybe you should use the "enter" button sometimes... try to make your posts "readable" for others!
If you want help... you should make it easy for people to understand what you want!
    This title does NOT!

Edit: killersmurfs post reminded me of... not beeing an ass!
So I edited this post so it sounds nicer! I hope my point is still understandable

goto data/campaignAI.db ( this is definetly misspelled! the "real" name is very near to that... you will find it easily! )

    Edit that with notepad!
There is a bribery-section... scroll down as the file is not very big!
The explanations are on the right side of almost every entry!
This is where you can change all of the modifiers used for bribing and make it easier... but be aware that this is global! The AI will use that too!

I actually first thought this was another thread about "WTF, I'm sieging random garrison script settlement and a full elite stack appears!?" Or "WTF, Full mordor stacks in my territory when using palantir?!"

    And also

Guys, I'm no moderator but you should talk nicely to each other . We don't want every thread ending in a flame war
