    Icon5 Starting the game without startup videos etc

    Is it possible to start the game (in my case Kingdoms vanilla or TATW or Stainless Steel) without the startup videos etc so it goes straight to the load game screen or similar?

    Magical button called "Esc" .

    ESC button takes too much effort, though. So it's best if there's an easier way.

    In the [video] section of your medieval2.preference.cfg file set this:
    Code:
    movies = false

    That line isn't in my file and adding it didn't work. Which section of the file does it go in? Do you mean "movies = 0" ?

    "false" and "0" mean the same thing to the computer.

    Under the
    [video]
    settings in your .cfg add the line
    movies = false

    should work. If your using a Mod you should put it in that Mod's "Configuration.cfg", otherwise in "medieval2.preference.cfg"

    Thanks, it works now, the startup time is so much better, I can't believe I waited this long to do it!

    No problem, enjoy your game.

    Sorry, the game started normally next time I started the game even though i didn't change anything - that line has been automatically removed. Is it OK to make the file read-only or is there some other way to make the change permanent?

    Making the .cfg read only is fine, just remember any changes you make to the settings, in-game, will not stay changed while the .cfg is read only.
    If your running a mod you can put that line in the mod's .cfg as well, that one wont automatically reset.

    I have a similar question...All the event cutscenes while in battle (such as a gate being broken down or a wall crumbling down or a general being killed) aren't playing, and it almost caused me to lose a critical battle cause I was unaware a wall had fallen while defending a castle.

    I must have accidentally disabled them but idk how.

    Yes, the simplest way is to delete the medieval2.preference.cfg directory & it will regenerate with default values. You just have to reconfigure the graphics settings and other custom settings again otherwise modify the current one:
    Code:
    event_movies = 1
