    Default High Elven Unit Roster from 2.1

    Hey guys,
    This is my first post on the site. I've been reading the threads for about a year now, and playing TATW for about as long. I loved the TA 2.1 High Elven unit roster, and I was really sad that it got changed up so much for 3.1. I absolutely love 3.1, the custom settlements are awesome, and the units are sweet, but I'd sorta like my overpowered elven militia back preferably in addition to the current roster, but if I have to sacrifice the current guys for the old that's ok. Does anyone know whether or not I can do this? and if so how?

    I know what you mean, though I just recently started playing I would love to get my hands on at least the skins/models of past units like the older-style Gondor militia (I would probably rename them Men at Arms/Archers of Dol Amroth and change their tunics or something).

    Aside from going back to version 2.1 I think your only alternative is to check out one of the submods. Baron Samedi's might still have them, there's also that standalone submod that adds in approximately a million factions.

    These are the differences between 2.1 and 3.1 HE militias.

    As you see, they're minor. Sword Quendi have 1 less attack and Bow Quendi have 1 less armour. The 2.1 units hardly seem overpowered by comparison.

    Ok, maybe overpowered was a bit of an overstatement, but unless I'm totally mistaken, and I probably am, the old militia had more of their defense from armor, and less from skill, which it seems to me makes them harder to kill. I'm using Baron Samedi's compilation and it doesn't have them in it sadly. Any other suggestions? I'll probably just end up sucking it up an forgetting about them, though if anyone knows how to get the skins into 3.1 that would be awesome.

    You could just modify the stats of the new ones to match the old. Probably one of the easiest things to mod.

    Or another way is to install in other folder TA 2.1,take from there this units,make them AOR,you need to look in folders ''ui'' ''unit_models'',and then work with text files,I think there should be tutorials how to add units to factions.

    I would like the old Eregion Smith skins...but I also would like to create some units with those old elven archers skins.

    In the attachment you can find the old skins. You would also need to change (replace the current entry) the models.db (in:...\Medieval II Total War\mods\Third_Age_3\data\unit_models):

    Hum...how do I put it...ah, 'what's is this "attachment" you're speaking of, Baron'?

    I mean, there's the "unit.texture" and the "unit_att.texture" files, which generally contains the weapons and other attachments. You mean the old Elven Archer skins (the one for the HE, in mail and Galadhrim helmets) are in the _att files?

    And if 'tis not much more to ask, do someone know the name of the files which they're in?

    i havent played HE enough in 3.1 to see a real difference in the roster, other than the new skins, but if they ARE weaker than their predicessors i dont really see why they would make that change. yes the Eldar units were/are op, but thats how HE works. theyre supposed to be a small faction with extreamly strong units. thats how they balance out, along with the fact that they can only expand so much. but that was never an issue for me as i like to roleplay in my campaigns. i remember one campaign i had back in 2.0 where i took the HE's natural expansion points, typicly Lunelaith, Eryn Vorn and possibly Allimir, and Ost-in-Ehil, turtled until i had the op Eldar units, and then built a huge army of elite troops and sent them to Gondor with Glorfindel in a mock Last Alliance i actually managed to take Minas Morgul,with Gondor's help. the battle in the Vale leading up to the city was epic... Gondor with his mix of militia and me with my Eldar Archers, swordsmen and spearmen against Ji-Indur Dawndeath and his army of Uruks, trolls and orcs... it was a battle to remember and was probably one of the highlited moments in 2.0 for me

    Oh thank you so much Baron!

    Now I need to think what kind of unit I should do with them. And fast, before my Milkshape trial expires lol.

    I was thinking about add them to Silvan Elves, since their helmet is Galadhrim and Tolkien told about elves in mail armor...and use the Warden model to create a Mirkwood rooster, but since I didn't spend more than one day in Milkshape I need to get more practice first.

    With Baron's instructions you would replace the current Eregion smiths instead of adding new ones

    Thanks for uploading the smiths! I deleted my 2.1 before I should have and now I want to augment the unit rosters and use some more old skins. Is it possible to download 2.1 still?

    Sorry to reopen this nearly a year on, guys. I just came back to TW a few weeks ago, and I've started trying to get the 2.1 HE sword militia into 3.2 again. I have literally no experience modding, and no knowledge of what I'm really up to. I tried replacing the "att_elf_sword_norm.texture" the "att_elf_sword.texture" the "elf_sword_norm.texture" and the "elf_sword.texture" files, but nothing has changed. Can anyone give me any guidance on what else I need to do, or whether I should start again with clean installs of both 2.1 and 3.2, and walk me through it? I'd be incredibly appreciative.

    There are links above that show you some tutorials and great programs that make doing it yourself a lot easier. Alternatively, if you're willing to try out MOS 1.41, I could upload the textures/models and model.db from my own game and provide you with a link. It's got the old High Elf miltia models, as well as a number of other new ones that you might enjoy.

    Edit: I updated my game for 1.5 and reimplemented all the textures changes, plus a bunch of new ones. Send me a PM if you're at all interested.
