Saka Blitzing Tips
Hi. I'm currently playing my first Saka campaign, H/M, and trying to blitz Baktria and northern AS (on the other hand leaving Parthia alive for a challenge later on, tho we all know I will regret it). From other threads I've understood that Saka FM's a practically invincible if used correctly. Unfortunately, I'm not using them correctly, so I need help.
While the AS are easy (two levies and a skirmisher unit, I can handle that), the Baktrians are difficult. Though I do "cheat" by using superior battlefield tactics to the stupid AI, I don't want to cheat and take Baktra while their full stack is trying to besiege Kophen (which could be done). Baktria has a full stack led by their FM, it's 3 cavalry, 6-8 phalances and assorted riff-raff. And I want to destroy it head on. I have some 5-7 FM's and a few riff-raff archers, and it just doesn't work.
I've read suggestions about running around till the enemies are tired, so a charge will break their morale quickly. But my Saka FM's are kinda heavy, and since they're on work all the time on the battlefield, they tire way earlier than the Baktrians. Also, they're not all that fast and since the Baktrians toggle off Phalanx formations when moving units, they can make their phalances run and then toggle it on again. So I rarely manage to isolate a unit of Phalangitai for long enough to destroy it, before the others turn up and inflict heavy casulties.
Any suggestions or are my 5-7 Saka FM's just not enough for this task
(I have no problem defeating large Baktrian stacks with less than 5 phalanxes and no heavy cavalry. But the combination of Baktrian FM's and many phalanxes mean I never get any of them isolated for long enough)
