Default Rome Total War won't open, no errors.

My copy of Rome Total War simply won't start up, after double clicking the shortcut or exe file the small box saying Rome Total War appears and then the screen goes black, after a few seconds it returns to desktop as if nothing happened.

I've tried adding -show-err to the end of the shortcut to see if there were any errors but there were none, it simply won't open.

Is there still a process in the task manager?

If it is the first time you're playing, the best and easiest thing to do is probably to cleanly uninstall RTW, and re install it; as it looks like a bad install.

in the future, go into your rome shortcut, and right click and on the menu select properities. Then on the target line it should be like this, "C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe"

    after .exe"

    add this show_err

so it now shud look like this

    "C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" show_err

the advantage of this is, when your rtw CTD most of the time a mesage will appear telling you what caused it.

These are call command switches, (i think)

such as -nm this will get rid of videos when you load the game making it load quicker.
