    Default Campaign Stories

Well, I haven't played the campaign alot to be honest, so I'd like to hear some of your experiences. Should also be good for people who haven't played yet to get some idea.

In my England campaign I've been having success against the French. I took Paris, and the town west of Paris, and headed south. taking towns and dropping units along the way. Around 1095 I was close to Geneva; making a line straight to take Italy. I saw Geneva had no one in their town so I went to take it and got ambused by 900 troops!! I had a pretty decent army of around 1200 men and made short work of them, but on the next turn I was attacked again by 1200 troops. long story short; don't go to geneva with a crap army.

Earlier today I played a short campaign as Aragon. I managed to conquor Zaragoza and Pamplona, and build up a decent infrastructure. However when I took Valencia I got into a pretty hefty slogging match with the Almohads. At one point I almost lost Zargoza to the Castillans who treacherously attacked me even though we were allied. Fortunately, however, two units of frankish mercenaries appeared while we were under seige and offered to fight for me for 2000. Together with the garrison they defeated the enemy and we held onto Zargoza. When I attacked the town south of Valencia, the name of which I forget, I took it. however when I tried to exterminate the populace the game crashed. I havent had any other crashes though, and in my french campaign last night I played up to about 1109 without any problems.

EDIT: The one thing, more than the bug fixes or the new units or anything, that would relly add to the immersion of this game is if the castles were added. Is there any word on how that's going? Are we gonna have to wait till a high era release or might they come in a special patch?

Played as the English, Took out the Welsh as soon as possible (Unfortunately I can't build longbowmen). Then went up North. Currently I've taken the whole Island, and I'm preparing to invade France. The war with France broke out when they kept sending troopt through my territory. When my experienced army arrives, we'll see whose knights are the pride of the christian world.

ps its currently 1092, no ctd's except when accepting mercenaries (but thats a known problem it seems).

I essentially sought to restore the empire to the extent it attained during the time of Basil II the Bulgar Slayer. Cilician Armenia was very aggressive and besieged Adalia twice and once even assaulted it. I fought one battle, a rather one-sided affair as I had taken an army from Constantinople to defend Adalia and attack Armenia. I took Tarsus from them as a punishment. I also took the rebel controlled cities in the heart of Anatolia. The factions do not seem to have objectives so they rarely go to war. I might add some myself.

It's still called 'Sicilia Graecus'?!? Couldn't you at least correct the gross grammatical inaccuracy, and call it 'Sicilia Graeca'? And shouldn't it be called 'Attaleia', rather than the Turkish 'Adalia'?

Ermm, Sicily wasn't Greek back than.

Sicily was first owned by Arabs and than got conquered by the Normans, Sicily isn't Greek.

I am making up a descr_win_conditions.txt to make the campaign have more oomph. Do I use the internal names like Romans_Senate for Bohemia or the CTW names?

It's internal names. I made a simple one. It has the basic principle of taking two provinces from your neighbours and doubling your territory. It seemed to effect BI and how the two Roman factions made war on each other so I hope it works as intended.

I don't want it called 'Sicilia Graeca'. My point was that if you're going to get the wrong name, at least get that name right! Still, these slips do happen. I would quite like to see 'Adalia' called 'Attaleia' however.

It's not a slip. It was just that alpaca used an old version of region and settlement names. It was actually fixed before.

Is Attaleia the Byzantine name? If so I can make the change :original:

Attaleia is a greek name that predated byzantium, however this is how the byzantines called it.

Adalia is how the Turks call it.

Well, it's a Greek name. As I understand it, 'Adalia' is the Turkish version of 'Attaleia' (the city was originally named after the ancient King Attalos, and kept that name up until its capture by the Seljuks).

Here's a small campaign story, from my experiences playing Poland. Told from the perspective of a general

From the diary of Leszek, a Polish noble and most trusted general of Duke Boleslaw II.
    July, AD MLXXIV.

Expand! Expand! That's all we're doing. Three years ago, we were but a small country in Eastern Europe. It was not that long ago that we converted from the old pagan faith to Christianity. We are one of many duchies and kingdoms in this area of the world. But that's all going to change, at least according to the Duke.

It was two years ago that Christendom was shaken at its very foundations by the horrible defeat at Manzikert. Most of Asia Minor, lost! Ironically, that was the year in which Poland became bigger for the first time in several years. Boleslaw was set on gaining access to the sea. "We need trade!", he said,"access to the Baltic will allow us to exchange goods with Denmark!"
It was not hard. The Prussian town of Truso was badly defended, and sending around two hundred militia soldiers was enough to get the townspeople to surrender. We still had to send a few more men over to ensure that our rule in Prussia was secure, but otherwise our victory was complete.

"Establish a good economy!". That first expedition had not cost all that much, and had given our fair duchy access to the sea. In the meantime, we'd also set up trade rights with Bohemia. That was not enough, however. One year later, the Duke personally gave me the orders to march from Wroclaw to Poznan and to raise an army there. That I did, but it was costly, as training and arming peasants is an expensive business. Fortunately, I was given a force of one hundred knights to form the core. From Poznan, we were to expand West, and capture the town of Misnia. When we started our march, after hastily raising an army, everything seemed fine. The Duke's treasury was slightly emptier, but we were still alright, financially.
Then came some disturbing news: The Polish capital of Krakow was under threat from a large Karpatian army. The defenses and the garrison there were weak, so the Duke had no choice but to raise a large army himself, so as to fend off the agressors.
The battle for Krakow was won, with about one hundred casualties on our side, but it had been a costly business.
That was three months ago, and I am here right now, before the gates of Misnia. Our coffers are empty, and it is up to me to make sure that I can capture the city. If our army is beaten, all this will have been in vain. If I win, it will be up to me to guard our western borders against the German emperor. He has attacked us before: A hundred years ago, duke Mieszko defeated the Germans at Cedynia.
Now that we have a direct border with the Germans, I fear it is only a matter of time before we are at war with them. And with our coffers empty, that would be a very difficult situation. I just hope that we can recover a little in the years to come. I also hope that the Duke doesn't get any more ideas about expansion for a while. We should look more into expanding our economy.
    May God be with us.
