Screen Resolution Issue

Hi all,

I've been searching for a fix to this problem for quite some time today but all attempts have failed. I bought a HP 2000 Notebook PC with a 1366x768 resolution and installed Rome:TW Gold via steam. The problem is that whenever I open the exe file to play, my screen is centered with two black lines going along either side of the screen. I also noticed the option for a 1366x768 screen is not available. I tried autodetect settings, widescreen and all other options in the video options menu, but none have worked.

My dxdiag is as follows:

Intel(R) HD Graphics, (Core i3), 1696 MB total memory, DirectX11, 1366x768 (32bit)

Please help! This issue is so irritating its almost rendering the game unplayable due to a "crunched" screen!

In the preferences.txt, set your monitor resolution in there, set the file read-only, and try it.

The preferences folder and preferences.txt file are only created after the game is launched for the first time. So, if it's a brand new install and it's not been launched before you may have troubles finding the file.

I want to add that even after launching the game the file and folder are still
not being created. You need to go to options and actually change any of the
settings there to let those get created.

I always got one created by starting a campaign.

I just tried that out - you're right - preferences.txt gets created by starting a campaign.

Preferences folder + player.txt file (inside the folder) gets created by launching the game.

Hi all,

I have the same problem for the screen resolution and I don't have any preferences folder created after beginning a campaign ; I only have a preferences XML file that apparently does not affect in any way the screen resolution... Do you know why is this ?

I thought it was preferences.txt. I don't have RTW installed right now to check.

I have a "preferences.DAT" weighting 1ko and a "preferences.xml" weighting 6ko... Nothing more. It's annoying !

I can't open the DAT file, and there's nothing affecting screen resolution in the XML file... I do use Europa Barbarorum, I launched a campaign with it too and no preferences file or folder appeared. I have windows 8, I also searched in appdata/roaming but no CA folder or Activision folder appears, and no preferences to be found...

I suggest asking in the EB forum, then. It seems they are using a different format than vanilla.

Well, before installing EB I tried to set the right screen resolution and failed also miserably, and with no mods installed... I saw several threads about that kind of problems, but no one seems to have the same problem as me.

I will look into their forum.
