    Default Where be the Dwarves?

I'm starting my way down the long road of beginning to tweak Third Age myself to the way I like it using the various modding techniques. As usual I've come unstuck on the first hurdle. I can't find the dwarven units within the units folder. Are they listed under something else are they somewhere else entirely?

Also are there any tutorials to modding Third Age directly rather than the general Medieval TW2? It would be easier to follow a guide that had exactly the same set up as me!

    Cheers : )

Go to export_descr_units in the data folder, hit ctrl+f, and type in dwarves

they are in the file export_descr_unit.txt with the other factions' units, after the silvan elves and before dale.

If you meant something other than the unit's stats than I am going to sound like an idiot

I'm totally new to this so sorry if I'm either not making myself clear or I'm misunderstanding your advice but I'm looking for the .mesh files so I can alter them?

Most of these seem to be in 'unit_models', 'Units' folder but not all of them. There's a few .texture files for dwarves but I'm not far enough along the line to know what the hell they are yet : ).

You should find those under data\unit_models\en_lmail_hmail.
Dwarves got funny names, yydc_lod0.mesh refers to ironcrossbowdwarves for example.
You can look them up in battle_models.modeldb

But you should be aware that (other than with changing stats etc.) you will need the permission of the creator (KingKong himself in this case) if you wish publish your modification.

Texture files are the skins that need to be allocated to a model, else the unit will just be a moving silver shape on the battlefield.

That is true if you want to alter the files and realease them in this forum. In this case, as Bungo Baggins said, you will need to ask permission.
On the other hand, if you only want to modify the units textures and any other stuff for your own use, then you don't need anyones permission. Have fun modding!

    Thanks guys.

No this is purely for my own personal pleasure. I'm starting to learn modding by altering the Dwarves as I love playing them, but I feel they don't quite have the polish that Gondor and certain other factions have.

If it works out then maybe I'll think of publishing eventually (with permission of course).

My initial plans are to get rid of the Dwarven miners and axethrowers. I don't like either unit and the they may have some rooting in lore but for me they ruin the realism a little. I just don't believe in them!

So I would like to upgade the Dwarven warrior unit to look a little more like the awesome defence might they are with bigger shields and I want to make the miners into a dwarven militia which will look something of a mixture between as they currently do and the current dwarven warriors.

In terms of the axe throwers, well I'm reading the hobbit at the moment and the dwarves use bows in Mirkwood so I'm thinking of a basic shortbow unit to replace them. That would still make them weak in the archery front but not quite as weak as they currently are.

Beyond that I'd like to add a couple more settlements up there in the empty north as in Il Duce's expanded map. It's just too empty at the moment.

One last question on textures as you mentioned them. I'm a little confused where to find them. Let's take as an example 'Rohan swordsman'. How many different texture files and animation files exist for this unit?

    Cheers
