Default Don't just stand there, get in the fight!

I've been playing M2TW for a while now, but am new to TATW, and am having some trouble with the behaviour of my armies.

Specifically, when I order a unit to charge, very often only the the first couple of ranks attacks, while the rest of the unit just stands around doing nothing. I don't know if it is a problem specific to my faction (I'm playign as dwarves), or TATW, or due to using very large units (I've previously only used the default size), but it wasn't a problem I had in any of my previous M2TW games.

Another problem, which may or may not be related, is that even if I stretch out my units into a wide but shallow formation (to get a good frontage), when I move them around, they frequently reform into a rectangle slightly deeper than it is wide.

A particularly bad example happened in a battle I fought a few minutes ago. I ordered my general's bodyguard to attack a unit of snaga archers, and only about 12 dwarves (including the general himself, my faction heir) ran forward to engage them. I ended up with my general completely surrounded by snagas, about 50m (I estimate) away from the rest of his bodyguards, who ended up mostly fighing a different enemy unit. (Fortunately he was a badass dwarven general fighting snaga archers in melee, so he survived, and the enemy eventually all routed, but it was a close call).

Does anyone else get this problem, and if so, is there a way to avoid it?

u can partially avoid "first row charge" problem by force running your troops few steps before automatic charge occur. Problem, unfortunatelly, lies deeper in units behaviour, but i don't know how to handle it. But i recall it is doable, not all MED2 mods has it

Another big problem is with Javelins, they take forever to setup and throw.

to OP: If you have a huge advantage in armies and you dont care about taking more casualities you can double-rightclick past the enemy army and most of your army will run to the front lines.
