    Default Game incompatable

So I finally decided to try out RTW multiplayer today. I typed in the cd key as shown, chose a name and went to the lobbies. When I tried to click on a game, however, I saw this:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

I have steam, with no mods at all.

    Any ideas?

You need to be using 1.5 to play online.
Or are you using Barbarian Invasion?
If you've transcended your facticity, congratulations. You're 3 transcendences from HoS.

You're on Barbarian Invasion, which is rarely played online. You need to load up Rome Total War instead. Since it's steam, it should be the latest patch, and you should be able to play.

No, I'm not. I clicked on Rome total war, and not BI. If you look, all the numbers correspond between me and the host, so why won't it work?

    Looks like you're screwed then.

Are you sure that you're not on BI?

Does it say ver 1.5 in the top right hand side when you go into options?

Yes. I tried BI, and it said 1.6 . RTW is 1.5

Well this is downright weird. You could try uninstalling and reinstalling it.

Really it should be working, or at the very least showing the games as compatible. I have the steam version as well and it's the correct patch and all, and works fine.

Same thing happens for me when I'm trying to play the mod SPQR (8.0) on lan or online. I've downloaded the same SPQR Mod programme on 2 PCs. Single player seems ok but cant play multiplayer says "not compatible game data" firewall OK EB Mod multiplayer works ok but the SPQR battles are epic and I would like to play these!
I have also posted on the SPQR forum but no responses yet.
    Thanks in advance!

Not sure where i've read that and if it will help at all but i think that somewhere was being mentioned
that if the names of the folders where the mods are installed do not match - this would happen.

At least worth a try - probably you'll need to ask others how they named their folder for that task.

When patching, you sure that you didn't over patch, or use patch from another version?

That happened to me once, I patched Gold version of BI v1.6 (or whatever that was), everything screwed up in terms of MP. Re-installed it and patched the normal 1.6 and than, it recovered.
