Yes, the link is in dutch, but it basicly says that there could be a new supervulcano erupting one of these years (could also be the next 100 years, the vulcano is due to erupt one of these years according since the last time he errupted, which he does every 12 000 years or something). They also say it could be a major threat for Europe.

The original article is from the Daily Mail, and doesn't contain a single quote or name of the 'experts' involved. The article is completely refuted in this blog by Erik Klemetti, who is an assistant professor of Geosciences at Denison University and is an active researcher on volcanoes.

Uh major threat? I would imagine a supervulcano ? (We speaking Latin today?) is a very big threat to Europe.

When exactly did the Dutch jump off the wagon? Why cant you guys just speak German.

Let's hope Yellowstone and Laacher See go off at the same time so TWCer's can about who's was biggest.

And here I thought that we Europeans were safe from supervolcanoes.

Every time I read about Yellowstone I thought to myself; ''hurr hurr sucks for you guys''

I think the largest volcano you have near Belgium is that crater lake in the Eifel volcanic field (Germany). And even that one is simply content with letting off some gas now and then (carbon dioxide to be precise I think). It might let off gas emissions á la that accident in Africa, even possibly have a true volcanic eruption in the future, and apparently that entire volcanic area is still active with some small annual rise of crust, but other than that there's not much volcanic activity in continental Europe north of the Alps.

    PS. There we go:

PPS. Oh, should have read the article, it's that volcano they're talking about! Oh, and that blog post is spot-on, given what little I have read about the eruption history of the area, it seems to be very unpredictable and it could very well be that this caldera will not be bothering us for tens of thousands of years...
