    Icon4 give_trait cheat

    Hi all,

I know there are a looooot of topics about the give_trait cheat, I've spent a good couple of hours to get the cheat to work, but still.. nothing..

I tried like all the possible forms (with and without selecting the character on the map):

    give_trait Vibius Julius Brave
    give_trait Vibius_Julius Brave
    give_trait ''Vibius Julius'' Brave
    give_trait ''Vibius_Julius'' Brave
    give_trait ''Vibius Julius'' ''Brave''
    give_trait ''Vibius_Julius'' ''Brave''

The trait cheat does work on names without any spaces, like Eporedorix.

Anyway, I hope I did something wrong and there is a solution for this, or do I need to get another version? (I have RTW Gold Edition 1.5, latest patch already I believe)

    Any help is welcome!

    Thanks

Is there no one who could help me out?

just input the name like you are trying, without any suffix like "Brave" "The Chivalrous" etc.

Yes the problem is that it can´t find the character. I did not tested it yet with Romans having titles such as ´´The Brave´´ or ´´The Chivalrous´´ like you said.
Only with standard names like Flavius Julius or Quintus Scipio, like in my first post.

    Help please?
Seriously this has been a problem to me for years, very frustrating..

Look through the game files, in particular, descr_traits (it might be export_descr_traits). The on-screen name of a trait is different to the name used in the files.

I do not have such files, maybe cause I got the steam version? (though that wouldn't make sense)

I presume the number at the end is a level - but I'm not sure......
Thanks for your reply, but these commands don't work, I've tried every combination already.

The give_trait cheat works fine with Medieval 2, it's a little differen with that game cause you don't have to type in the character's name, instead you select the character and type in: give_trait this Brave 2 for example.

So just to be clear, my problem lies not with the traits but with recognizing the characters.

    Try this:
    give_trait "Brave" "Vibius Julius" 5

There are some Roman characters that it absolutely will not work on. No clue why. But if I play Carthage, or any other faction for that matter, it works every time. But the above is the correct way to input it.

    Thanks for your reply.
The idea looked good, but it did not work out as well..
Soooo, more solutions please? I'd really appreciate it.
Would be a miracle if this will be solved lol

By the way, cheats on cities with a space DO work. Like process_cq Narbo_Martius.
The game recognizes the cities, so it's just the damn characters..

Okay, you are right, it doesn't work... my apologies. I went back and played a little and got it to work. Try to repeat exactly what I did to see if works for you:

    • Single Player>Imperial Campaign - Choose the House of Julii.
    • Select the troops just above the settlement Arretium and find character Flavius Julius
    • Right click to open his trait menu
    • Open RomeShell
    • Exactly as it appears, type: give_trait "Flavius Julius" "GoodAdministrator" 3
I just did it before I typed this message, and I did it with all of the characters with the House of Julii. Like I said before, for some reason it doesn't work on all roman characters, but it does for all other campaigns. Something else to keep in mind: When your character's name changes, you can't give_trait under the new name, it has to be the old name, or the maiden name (if you will). For example, if Flavius Julius becomes Flavius the Brave, then all give_trait commands have to remain under the original name of Flavius Julius.

    I hope this helps.

Thanks again for your response, but I've already done that method a couple of times, it just doesn't work.
And yes I know about the original names etc. I've had this problem for years lol..
    Anyway, thanks for the effort!

    Any people with more solutions?

So no one's having a clue? lol

Are there still any people who can help me out with this?
