SEGA and The Creative Assembly announced on Friday that the companies would release Rome Total War: Alexander (announcement) via digital download on June 1st, priced at $18.95. This new expansion pack will work with 2004's Rome: Total War (review), the Ancient Roman turn-based and real-time strategy game that won The Wargamer's Game of the Year award that same year. The new Alexander expansion pack will feature the life of the Greek general as he marched his epic army from Greece, through Persia, and into India. The all-new campaign will include the armies of Macedonia, Persia, and India, adding 25 new units to the game, including Alexander's own historical troops. Six major battles from his campaign will be unlocked sequentially, giving historical backdrop to the game.
Rome: Total War - Alexander will be released via digital download from SEGA.com web site. For more information on the game, we recommend visiting the official web site.

Although I have been very pro this idea, £10 is just too much for me. Considering BI was £15, I dont think the price matches up
18 Dollars..that's a bit much in my opinion. I won't be buying it for that price, if it does not add a new patch to RTW/BI to improve AI also. I'd rather stick to the mods out there.
From the pride and arrogance of the Romans nothing is sacred. But the vindictive gods are now at hand. On this spot we must either conquer, or die with glory (Boudiccas Speech, Tacitus, Annals, XIV, 35)

No offense, but I'm surprised by how cheap most people here are. 18 bucks isn't that much. You bought BI for 40 Bucks. RTW for 50. Thats over $20 decrease from rtw and over $10 from BI. ATW adds a brand new campaign map and 4 new factions. New music and Brian Blessed production values. Think of it as like buying a music CD! When you look into the value, I think its definetely worth it. You really expected CA to give it out for $10? They need to feed their kids you know...
In Poland you can buy Golden Editon for $30 so $18 for ..... that, is pretty much esp comparing to quality of mods that you can play for free.

I bought rtw for £25, BI for £15, im not spending £10 on what is essentially a mini XP. 4 factions?Originally Posted by {nF}remix
It isnt the money but the principle. I am all for the new idea for CA to release mini campaigns periodically thru download which we pay for, but the price is just that little bit too much. I would buy for £7.50.... now while the difference in price is very small, it is the principle of the thing. There just isnt the content to justify it.
Not that i dont really want to play it, so im a little disappointed the price is just that little bit too high
yup i agree with shaggy. If they wanted me to pay that much they should have put some effort into it

pah, the pice is just confirmation of CA's tatics all along with this mod.
1) Spend as little as possible on development by recolouring current units.
2) Put in as little effort as poss.... (cant be bothered finishing the word)
3) add something new but cheap - Brian Blessed
4) make is as expensive as possible
when they should have made it cheap enough to reflect the obvious lack of effort ie. $0
I'm sure they do have kids to feed, thats why they are making M2TW (what will hopefully be an actual proper game that will make their company millions and millions just like all the other total war games) yes? Lets get real, they aren't exactly starving people here. They are just milking RTW far beyond what is it worth.
Sickening.
Whats more sickening is how many suckers that are falling for it
But why should we spend 20 bucks on some thing that is basically an unrealistic mini mod. They spent as little time possible making new units and factions, did not even make anychanges to the game engine, and infact they cant even look up India in the history books. Lazyness at its best.Originally Posted by {nF}remix
The fact that it wont be out in shops shows how little effort they put into it, they know that all the mags would give it a very low score and reveal just how little is in it for 20 bucks.
Why shoud i part with my money on this half assed mini-mod? Especially since i can easily crop the map, edit out half of the units and most make even more obscure faction colours my self.
Even if i was a millionare i still would not buy it.

Just because its not coming out in the shops doesn't mean the mags won't review it. This download only expansion is CA trying out a new distribution method. I still expect all the major mags to review it.

But since its a download, then mags are not going to be so harsh with it. Its not expected to be a proper exp if its not out in the shops you see. It still proves that even CA know that its below par compared to other expansions.
No matter how much you want it, you still know that its a quick attempt at an expansion to keep TW alive and build up hype before MTW2 comes out.

$18 is cheap. I would rather pay $18 than wait forever for a half-assed free mod that never gets released...(Megas Alexandros anyone?)![]()
The main thing to note is that CA got paid to make that trash that is alexander. Everybody who mods does it as a hobby. Considering that the great mods are vastly superior than the origional CA stuff and all of their expansions i think that the modding community is owed a bit of thanks, not refered to in the way you do so. Some mods die becuase they need interest from the public like oxygen. It is very difficult to keep anything that doesn't pay going.Originally Posted by chaos
Totaly agree with Zhuge just one additional point
the ratio of modders (particularly modellers) to users this is another reason mods fail
