Earlier Romani Reforms Patch
Player & AI -- > Polybian: 260BC / Marian: 235BC / Imperial: 195BC
General
I did some modifications a good time ago to play a turtle Roman campaign with the reforms taking place for both player and AI Rome unconditionally in :
Polybian: 260BC Marian: 235BC (and for AI -Rome only: additionally a good chance once it has over 8 provinces) Imperial: 195BC
Gameplay Effects:
Player Rome: You don't have to worry about any conditions, but simply get the Romani reforms unconditionally at the above listed dates - regardless how many provinces, buildings, victories... you have. No more campaigns without (or too late) Marian or Imperial units!
AI Rome: As also AI-controlled Rome gets the reforms unconditionally as liste above, it is somewhat stronger than in normal campaigns, as it will for sure get the more advanced units quite early. So it's less likely that AI Rome will be crushed by Carthage and/or the Gauls... so they'll most likely always be around (and quite strong) for you to battle!
As stated below by XSamatan it's save-game compatible for games where the reforms haven't taken place yet.
The are the changes (= in red) to the EBBS_SCRIPT.TXT-file in detail (for anyone interested in the mechanics):
Installation
Backup the original EBBS_SCRIPT.TXT!
- unrar/-zip the modified EBBS_SCRIPT.TXT-file (that you downloaded from the attached files)
- remove the brackets (and their contents) from the file name
- place that unrared file in "... Rome - Total War\EB\Data\scripts\show_me" replacing the original EBBS_SCRIPT.TXT (again: backup the original EBBS_SCRIPT.TXT! before doing this)
Done! Start EB (with the new dates for the Romani reforms).
Note!: As stated before - It's only save-game compatible for games, where the Romani reforms (be it Polybian, Marian or Imperial) haven't taken place yet - be it when you play the Romani yourself or when the Romani are AI-controlled and you're playing an other faction.
If either of the three Romani reforms has occured already, don't use this file for that specific campaign. Though you can safely use it for any new canpaign or ongoing campaign where the Romani reforms haven't taken place yet (regardless if your playing the Romani or any of the other factions).
Modifying dates of reforms
If you don't like a too strong AI-Rome, then perhaps you'll want to change the Marian reform segment manually, so that AI-Rome only gets the Marian reforms in 235BC or when it has over 19 (or whatever you like) provinces - whichever of both occurs first. The downloadable file gives AI-Rome the Marian reforms once AI-Rome has more than 8 provinces, which allows AI-Rome to get post-marian legionaries fairly soon. Note: Italy without Sicily, Sardinia and Corsica has 10 provs iirc.
Here's what to change in the attached file (note: changes are save-game compatible, but of course the Marian reforms cannot have taken place already for either human or AI Rome // installation as described above):
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Use the search function of eg.
notepad++ (a good free application), windows-text or whatever tool you want to use...
EXAMPLE:
Code:
;Unconditional AI Reforms
monitor_event FactionTurnEnd FactionType seleucid
and not FactionIsLocal
and I_CompareCounter Romanii_Reform = 1
and I_NumberOfSettlements seleucid > 19 (note: it's 8 in the attached, modded file!)
conditions for Marian reforms would then be:
> wait until 235BC (and for AI additionally some chance when over 19 provinces)
Btw - this thread could be moved to the submods thread, or not?
