Anyone know how to get the control_faction cheat to work

I want to control another faction to help get around campaign ending bugs and figure them out...i've tried the cheat: control_france for example and it says the command does not exist. Does anyone know how to control other factions during a campaign.

You have to be in a Hotseat campaign.

You're doing it wrong at first, hotseat or not.

The proper way to do any command is 'control_faction faction'.
Of which the red part is the 'command'- it stay as it is, otherwise the system cannot recognize it.
This is why it prompt 'command does not exist'.
The blue part is where you stuck in the actual 'faction representative'- 'france', 'england' et c.

It works in M2 too. I don't know the exact command, as I have never used it.
