    Default Hit point and defense

I'm currently working of the stats of a new faction unit rooster (look heir of angmar submod thread if you are interrested).
But there is something that confuse me : what are the mecanics of attack, defense and hit point.
How do they exactly work. How does defense point and hit point counter attack points.
For exemple they say that hit points indicated how many times a unit can be hit but i have seen 1 hit point unit being hit several time without dying. I have also seen 5 hit point units dying after just one hit.
So how does defense and hit point works. What are the equations when, for exemple a unit with 11 attack point tries to hit a unit with 16 defense and 2 hit point?

    Thanks

Iam no expert in the game mechanics but I found this that might help you understand a little more about it.

The thing is many more factors affect the outcome of an attack vs defense such as: type of weapon, angle of attack, armour, terrain, etc.
    I hope it helps!

Every attack animation represents a single "attack roll" but it doesn't mean the other unit is automatically "hit", that would defeat the purpose of having a defense stat. The "rolls" occur until the attack is successful and the defending unit is hit when it loses a hit point and usually dies.

A unit with more than 1 hit point cannot be killed with a single successful hit unless it's a catapult shot, boiling oil or something like that. The attack values shown on the unit card are merely an attack bonus that is added to an existing invisible attack value which means that even a unit with 0 attack can kill.

The defense stat is split into armour, defense skill and shield values. Armour protects against all attacks at all times, it's the best defense stat. Def. skill only protects against melee attacks (useless vs. ranged) and is negated if the unit is attacked from the rear. The shield value is like armour but it protects only from the front and the left side (the shield arm side).

This is only true in Rome Total War, though. In Medieval I thought shield is 100% effective at the front and 50% at both right and left side.

Great, now even a famous mod (and modder) is spreading false information.

I am ever so sorry, I was only going by the documentation in the EDU (all stats/attributes are explained there). What luck that you were here to avert disaster, eh?

And it wasn't that bad, everyone can make a mistake like that lol
Especially when you know a lot about 2 games who are quite similar to each other, it's very understandable to confuse them sometimes

Sweet, sweet derailment. I think the OP got his questions answered.
