    Default Campaign Map screen

    This is likely old but:

Seems like a race against time then to conquer the map, as predicted. I wonder if that will be the case for all factions or just Macedon? Looks like the Persians have conquered the Indians too. Looks good but I think I'll be adding a good number of provinces to it.

Perhaps, but the North, South and Furthest East look a little too big for my liking.

It's about the right size for an Alexander map, but I would have liked a little more of India.
The geography is all messed up and I'm too used to mundus magnus

It also would've been nice if they stuck Tyre on a island, close to the coast.
I suppose mapping limitations were to blame.

When I first saw the campaign map on totalwar.com, I was disgusted. I'm still disgusted. I have no words to describe it that are mild enough for a family forum.

looks like the 1st turn (10 turns and 10000 denarii exactely looks pretty hard to obtain by playing )
So, strange that the idians do not appear
The map looks quite good, so bad we won't be allowed to take Carthage and Rome

edit : strange, the screens are dated from the 17 and I do not see any link on the forum

    I have two questions.

    1. What in the name of all that is sacred happened to Greece?
    2. Are CA going to use this sort of approach to M2TW?

If the answer to number 2 is 'yes', then I feel that it will be difficult for any by-stander to restrain me from tracking down the Australian production team and giving them a good kicking.

I don't know about the whole turns thing, but I do know that someone is definatly going to have to do a map re-do. I think that the current map has way too few provinces.

I don't mind the number of provinces. In fact, I do tend to agree that less is more in that respect. However, someone is really going to have to mod this heavily, so that there are:

    1. Historical and geographical accuracy! There's no need whatsoever to make the map so ugly and deformed - I can't see at all how that could contribute to gameplay..
    2. More historically accurate provinces. Athens would be nice to see, as would others. Places like 'Issus' (you just know that they skimmed a copy of Arrian or something and picked out the first place names they saw, don't you?) should be replaced with actual regional capitals, and so forth.
    3. More factions! Again, less is more in this kind of expansion, but you could at least add Sparta (this was notable as one of the few independent Greek cities remaining that was opposed to Macedon), split the 'Barbarians' up into Triballians, European Scythians and Asian Scythians, and perhaps add a Persian Rebel faction. Further mods could also add Rome and Carthage, but they're largely superfluous.
    4. Get rid of the turns!

Obviously units will also need to be massively re-vamped, and so forth.

As for the number of provinces.... more = longer game in general. So why have they failed to increase the number of provinces when it is a smaller campaign map. Worse yet, they have reduced the number of provinces from what i can see!

Well this is the ugliest, most innacurate map i have ever seen. Where is Athens, it was only one of the most important cities at the time. And Byzantium was a greek colony, not a barbarian settlement. And surely Egypt was more important then just one prov. The only explenation for this map is that they built it from maps actually from the Alexander period.
