Default How to give traits to generals

I cannot figure out how to give traits to generals that have "of" in their name (example, Menestas of Pydna). I can figure out how to give traits to "Kleomenes" but the fact that one general has "of" in their name messes it up. Anyone know how to fix this?

When there is more than one word in a name, you need a "_".

    Diocleation Booboo

    "Diocleation_Booboo"
Cry "Havoc!", and let slip the dogs of war.

Exactly, same when your naming a city with two names.

See I tried giving an underscore for "Aratus_of_Sicyon" but it still said "character not found." I typed give_trait "Aratus_of_Sicyon" "Intelligent" 2, yet it said character not found.

I tried give_trait "Lucius Fabius Maximus" "Intelligent" 2, that is, without the underscores, and it worked fine, but it doesn't seem to work either way with any leader that has "of" in their name. I looked in the game files, and it looks like the game separates the character name and the "surname" into two different categories, with the name being "Aratus" and the surname being "of_Sicyon". so maybe that gives a clue as to how to type it in.

Never mind, I figured it out.

For a character like Areus of Sparta, it should be "Areus of_Sparta" and it will work fine. So the command give_trait "Areus of_Sparta" "Intelligent" 2 works.

Hmm. I just got back into RTR and found that I can't reproduce the give_trait command I did earlier. For some reason the game doesn't like it even though a year back it seemed to like it. Will post another comment if I get it to work.

Sometimes it will say "character not found," but if I delete the quotation marks around the character's name it will sometimes just say "could not find this trait in the database," even though the trait should exist. Maybe it's a problem with something the mod did (I'm using Extended Realism)

open up the descr_names.txt file, search the name you are looking for. when you find it, the name on the right is how it will appear to you when you view the character in the game, whereas the name on the left in brackets is the one used in-game, which is the one you require to give said character traits to
