    Default Controls

Sorry if these are obvious questions, but I just started playing Medieval 2 again. I played it a long while ago as well, but only for a little bit.

Is there a button which allows you to march your units straight forward, like the ' key in Shogun 2?

Also, is it possible to direct the camera using the middle mouse button?

All the controls are in the Keyboard Controls Section.

I checked it, there wasn't a hotkey for marching units forward, but I was hoping it existed anyway since its not a new concept and it was included in Shogun 2.

It is a new concept. This command did not exist in older games, as far as I know.

No there is no such option in it, although you can set check points, i usually do this with cavalry in which they move in an arc, get behind and then i charge the enemy with them when they reach their destination.
Anyways press F1 whilst in battle to see all commands possible.

    What is 'marching forward' exactly?

How do you get your entire battleline to charge the opposing line while maintaining formation?

I usually do control+A, then double-right-click on the ground behind the enemy formation, and when my units get close, I select each unit individually and double-right-click on the closest enemy in front.

There is no way do it unless you group them in formations, which i rarely do, i don't find that effective anyways. The other thing is you right click and give the predefined formation so they don't break up\mixup by the time they reach their destination.

I was under the impression that to keep your units in formation while charging or marching is to hold alt then click or double click to where you want them to go. That's what I've been doing all this time.

Yeah, alt + move will maintain formation and facing, grouped or not. Is that what 'marching forward' means?

To charge the opposing line, group the units you wanna charge with and just click any enemy unit. Grouped units always attack the closest enemy and in the case of parallel lines, your group should neatly charge the enemy.

The same is true for archers. Grouped archers always fire at the closest target. If you wanna fire at a specific target with multiple archers, ungroup them first.

You can also slect a unit(s) and hold the right button while you move the mouse to adjust the depth of their formation. I find this help full when Im commanding a group of knights/horsemen in the wedge formation.
