Default To all the Dwarf Lords in TATW

To all the Dwarf Lords in TATW, how do you guys solve the problem of lack of cavalry when playing dwarf? I found it very disgusting when most of the enemy army are archers or skirmishers, they have their skirmish mode on and will run away when you get close to them so you need to chase them all over the map......This is just BS in the early period of the game when you have no crossbow, catapult and Dale Cavalry......

Choose your battles and try to fight in settlements, you cant do much more. Also, you can hire Dale Cavalry near Dale/Esgorath, from turn 1 on.

As the Dwarves, there are three good strategies:
    1. Fight as much in siege battles as possible.
    2. Try to get Iron Crossbowmen, will make short work of Snaga skirmishers.
    3. Hire some Dale Cavalry (not my favorite due to lack of availability).

Dale cavalry is all you really need. It gives you the ability to control the skirmishers and allows your infantry to chop theirs into pieces.

The lack of cavalry can sometimes be annoying, but as an experienced dwarf player I usually dont need it very much. Try to control high spots, make the enemy tired before entering the battle. Dont fight Rhun, their horsearchers can be devasteting for low tier infantry. When you get Iron Guards and similar these guys can fight anything. The Dale cavakry is a nice addon ofc, when fighting skirmishers. Otherwise use miners (the dwarves only light infantry) to engage them in battle, and then smash them with heavier guys.

I dunno, i still think drwarfs riding on boars would be cool. Dunno if anyone played Age of wonders or not. But i think it nailed the lore behind why dwarfs ride boars.

Seriously? Just...no. Dwarves are great as is (one of my favorites). They're not supposed to have cavalry. All factions need to be unique if you ask me. Dwarves heavy infantry, Rohan cavalry, Gondor/Arnor balanced, Elves archers, etc. If all factions had equal numbers of the general unit types the game would be boring. You wouldn't have to strategise or adjust HOW you fight with your troops. The guys above nailed how to fight with dwarves. And in the Hobbit when Dain was trying to quickly come to Thorin's aid...they weren't riding no damn boars, they marched on foot.

Play age of wonders and you'll quickly will realize that boar riding dwarfs is an awesome idea.

"Dwarven Boar Riders, Wielding great axes, are among the fiercest mounted warriors, rivaling the orcish heavy cavalry. Boars are not able to move as quickly as full-sized horses, but they enable the Dwarven riders to move much faster than foot soldiers. Like other Dwarves their inborn hardiness also gives them a natural resistance to many magical effects and posion.

Though mocked by the other racees as "Pig-lovers" theDwarfves share a strong bond of trust with the formidable swine. The boars are sure-footed, even across the rocky mountain passes
It's one of the reasons why i love age of wonders still. It sticks very well to common high fantasy with all the races and stuff. Even the description with Halfings is pretty spot for the most part. Haters gonna hate but Boar Riding dwarven warriors in middle earth is epic.

The best would be dwarves on motorcycles like the one in Terminator 2.

As much as possible, use Miners to take the javelins and arrows in the beginning of the game while the Warriors stay as safe as possible. Get Crossbowmen as soon as possible. I always head for Dorwinion first and pick up a Dale Cavalry while there if the pool has filled.

Your basic idea is to recruit Mercanary Dale Cavalry (Through your General) when near Erebor or Dale. You will need them to deal with those Skrimishers and Archers, and they make it a lot easier.

Try and stick to settlements like glue. Dwarves are best at settlements. Your best chance on taking OOTMM and OoG is to take their settlements, do not attack they're armies outside of settlements unless need be.

    Good luck!

To add one thing, a combo of crossbows AND catapults in the field gives you sufficient long range ability to deal with any type of enemy missile troops. If you have maybe 4 units of catapults and 5 crossbows, you are pretty safe from anybody even without Dale cavalry.

Axe throwers are a haven I usually mass them with a few odd warriors in shield wall... But really you start with a huge city and plenty of rebel settlements as well as no immediate threat from anyone... I've never had the lonely mountain seiged... So I usually take rebel settlements and bunker down till the lonely mountain makes grand dollars and I have enough cash to support a worthy army... Dwarves are tough and slow... So are turtles

Deedlit, we are not playing generic High Fantasy here, I'm sure theres some other fitting mod for that, but a game that tries to be close to Tolkiens creation. Its not hate; Tolkiens Dwarves did not even fight from the backs of ponies which they could ride, why would they get boars instead? Some animals are noted to be ridden in ME, wild pigs aint among them. One cant even point at reliable sources as to make it more likely as boars never been used as cavalry.

Exactly. My point wasn't to hate on your boar-riding dwarves Deedlit, but this game is based off LOTR, not age of wonders. Boar-riding dwarves to me sound just ridiculous in this world. The idea is not even HINTED by Tolkien and like Ngugi said, they didn't even fight from ponies. Want boars? Play your other game n not this one, just sayin.

What he said. One of the best things about this mod is the stunning amount of lore accurate content, and anything that messes with that should be relegated to personal sub-mods.

Holy Mary, Pig stables, anyone ever been around a pig farm God knows downwind is not the place to be. 300 pigs make 3000 cows smell like damn Roses. Ever tried to ride one, well they move really wierd, horses are much easier and far more accepting of alien concept of having something on their back, I'm not sure how you even get a saddle to work without it rolling like you tried strap it to a barrel. Too get a pig to go a certain direction you dont steer it you slap the hell out of its nose, about the only thing you can hurt they notice. Second when a horse gets mad they buck or try to rub you off on a convenient fence, a pig goes after you with every intent to screw you up for life. It takes a lot to piss off a horse before they decide to kill you, boars just get in thier damn head for no apparent reason I mean you are in the process of feeding the damn things and the next moment you are ass over tea kettle because they charge get their head under you and toss you like a damn nerfball.

If you can't guess I really hate pork.

About snaga skirmishers there are about 1001420123123 topics. Long story short: ignore them, destroy the rest of the enemy, then take your time and chase them one by one.

Generally speaking: siege battles, rush for Iron Crossbowmen and recuit Dale Cavalry whenever it's possible.
It's only after you have lost everything, that you are free to do anything.

well, there is difference between Dwarf lord and Dwarven lord

I edited the files so now I am able to recruit Dale longbowmen and Yeomen (but I made them as a very rare units,so it takes a load of turns till you're able to recruit them)
