    Default Dwarven portraits too foggy?

Is it only me or does anyone else feel that way?
I never really played dwarves before but for some reason i really love them in 3.0 but the portraits always seem too foggy for my eyes.

Example Balin: Original 3.0 / Sharpened / The Hobbit Balin

I take it in order to mod the portraits i only need to replace the TGA files and im done, right?

They have heavily edited the character pictures in "The Hobbit".

In TATW, there are usually no edits.

Seems to be some game limitations or the fact that im behind widescreen, since the new one looks the same in game.
Game seems to strech it out even tho the widescreen is ticked in options.

It doesnt look the same size picture at all. I wonder does it look ok on 4:3 monitors.

Portraits are rather small, and they of course loose a lot of detail and get a bit blurry. In the game depending of screen resolution they can get even more blurry.

I didn't use any sharpening effect on the portraits, that production pic on the other hand is heavily edited and sharpened.

Is there any way for Medieval 2 to keep the correct aspect ratio and not strecth things out or is it engine limitations?

Also why is the same custom image in battlemap only 3/4 of the box, meaning that it doesnt go all the way to the top like the normal portraits.

Problem was that i didnt use the Alpha Channels. Now it all works perfect with custom portraits, unfortunately it is still bit foggy since it still stetches the game with widescreen, so in order to keep the face in correct aspect ratio i need to shrink faces in portraits to 80%, so they look like normal in widescreen nothing to do with fogginess coming from strecth im afraid.

    Meaning what?

Btw i was thinking about the portraits. Get lotro free, use randomize 50 times and whola, some very nice dwarf portraits what can also be edited. Ofcourse could make important chars the way to look like they are supposed to look

    Happy new year!

I think that most of the dwarf portrait are alright except maybe for a few like this one which looks like a mutant.

Yeah the old ones were ok no question, just too stretched for my liking, never bothered with other factions before.

Anyway my new starting roster. Not paticulary happy with all, like Gloin for example but just tested anyway

lol, not all portraits have a great source like those hobbitt dwarves, gotta make due with what is available... Some Dwarves in particular I had to make portraits out of really crappy sources.

That's the wrong Thorin . Your portrait is Thorin II Oakenshield, but the guy is Thorin III Stonehelm

I have probably seen the pictures you used unless you took screens yourself from film. Tho with little time they can be improved, King Dain for example. But in the end of a day it comes down to personal preference anyway.
Dont take me wrong no intention to make yours look the bad way or anything. Just my first step into editing things myself
