    Default Identical Towns?

This is something that bothered me a bit in Rome: Total War: every town of the same size has the same exact layout, with a few variations that depend on what structures are there. Now, there is a bonus to this: you can tell which side of a town to attack from, but otherwise, it does annoy me a bit to see Rome no where near the Tiber River, or Byzantium a few miles from the coast, etc.

So, do you think that MTWII will fix this, or at least have some unique settlements? Personally, I don't think so, but the trailer does make me wonder...

hmm good point. I too have wished that the cities were a bit more individualisitc. The 1st time i stormed rome i was disapointed that it looked just like every other big city.

The video of ME2 have given me alot of hope though, that sequence when the camera is zooming backwards through the city really shows just how complex the cities are now & i doubte every city will look just like that, so i am quite confident they will make them much more unique.

Not sure about the historcal correctness, things like bazantium being a few klicks away from the ocean dont bother me, but some uniqure buidligns would be nice, like pyrimids in egypt (near the city), Notre dama in france (was it built by then?) and other natunal monuments would look really good.

I always wondered why Alexandria didn't have a harbor and Constantinople didn't have triple walls. I really hope they fix this in MTW2

Constantinople didn't exist in RTW, so that's a good reason why it didn't have triple walls...

But anyways, in M2TW the cities will at least look like they're using the surrounding environment. Though they have not confirmed that the layout of each city will reflect the real city, just that it will mesh with the environment.

It would seem that terrain surrounding towns, and hopefully battlefields, will have more of an impact than on RTW, where there were generally 4 types of battlefields: plains, forests, mixed forests/plains, and mountainous.

Well they've said the actual terrain will effect how a city is structured so different terrain = different cities (possibly!)

However they've also hinted at unique cities like Venice or Constantinople.

i was really dissapointed when I first discovered that cities by the coast really weren't. WHen I besieged Alexandria I was wondering where the famous lighthouse was. Then I saw it in the far off distance, and I was like, wtf mate. THis city isn't even Alexandria! THere were many dissapointments after that and I have since become callous towards city designs. Bring on the crap CA, im ready!!!

If the cities are just not as flat as they were in RTW, that's a great improvement. If the cities are not flat but they all look the same, it sucks, but it's still better than RTW.

Imo, small villages consisting of 42 people or so don't matter but big cities like Constantinople and Tenochtitlán (the capital of Aztec empire) should be unique.

I agree that more variation on the settlements is required. Perhaps small villages have a few differences, but major settlements should definitely be unique.

Well CA said that there will be historic citys in it *meaning that the city will nothing like any other city* Such as Rome, Constantanople (how ever you spell it) and many more but how that shapes out in the final game is to be seen.
