Default It may be interesting to note...

In their new Total War site, CA says that M2 has been in the works for seven years. At face value, this is a lie. M2 could not have been in the works as M1 was only introduced in 2002!

So how can CA make such a claim? It may be interesting to note that for every year since the 2000, there has been a Total War game on the market. In 2000 it was Shogun, 2001 was Mongol Invasion, 2002 was Medieval, 2003 was Viking Invasion, 2004 was Rome, 2005 was Barbarian Invasion, and 2006 will be Medieval Two (I am not counting the SEGA pushed expansion about Alexander in this). Doesn't this seem odd to you? Did CA do this on purpose? Nonetheless, it validates their claim about M2 being in the works for seven years.

(actually figured out by Fable, but he decided not to do the first post)

Well, maybe they include the research etc they used in M1 for this? Who knows . . . people say crazy lies and half truths when they are trying to make a few dollars.

could be that they consider each TW a step towards creating MTW2

Yes, they said the same thing about RTW, and about MTW

They said this about Rome, too, I think. Essentially it is the concept that they have been working towards an engine like this since the outset of the Total War series, and that production towards it hasn't stopped despite game releases. I think that is what they mean, I'm a little rusty...

Well i hate to break it to you Americ but companies lie all the time.

This of course ranges from small things like omitting information, simply confusing people and using odd definitions to full blown malicious lying defrauding bastard lies (damn real estate guy you shafted me!!!)

This is probably a case of odd definitions ie most of the world thinks in development or in the works mean you've actually been working on the game.

Its quite possible they mean they've been thinking about doing something you know, like a game or something, about like, samurais or maybe knights or something else cool since they were kids and thus the games been 'in the works' for years and years.

Lets hope it doesnt spread and we get real lies (ala CDV and cossacks 2 or codename panzers 2)

    Yeah I think so too.
Said the same with RTW that it was in development since the start of TW series.
I think they consider all the TW games as one, a game that is always in development.

I didnt say you said that.

You were wondering about some information that didnt seem quite right. I pointed out that companies lie all the time and they probably were lying in some form or another (see previous post).

As I indicated they probably have some bizarre definition in play.

Well, I do think that companies twist things to their own benefit, but lets not forget that it is illegal to false advertise. A Lawsuit was already brought against CA in the past for this, so I do not think that they would make the same mistake again.

So basicaly you're saying that CA's claim that they've been working on this for 7 years would be like Bush claiming he'd been president for over 200 years?

EDIT-yeah what's the lawsuit about? I vaguely remember something like that happening.

Well they basically started shogun and Rome engine at the same time (and in some small way they have been doin things for M2:tw) and since they they are usin the ROme engine now, it is not nessesaryly lieing

CA is the worst hype engine in the industry... lucky their games come up to at least mediocre level or they'd be dust by now.

    Valve.

Consider your arguement devoid of any merit.

    ----------------------------------------

They are essentialy taking MTW and putting it into RTW.

Since Medieval was almost certainly in development from 99/00 they could quite accurately claim that after they finished that game a small team of devs kept working transfering ideas and things over to Romes engine as it was being designed.

This though just shows how annoying the TW "fans" are... CA cant say a single thing without getting some people moaning and screaming about something....

(^^^ thats not directed at the thread starter, but rather the same faces in every thread saying the same anti CA Bs.)
