    Default What Would.

ok my comp's stats are as follows.

    Hewlett-Packard
    Pavilion

    Intel(R)
Pentium(R) CPU 2.60GHz / <==As far as i can tell this is my processor.
2.60GHz, 512 MB of RAM / <==This is my Ram obviously.

I got 2 questions . What will putting in 2 gigs of ram do? I know I have an Nvidia graphics card which is mediocre at best. How can I tell how good it is?

You have to tell us the modle of your graphics card. Go to the setting page of display properties and go to Advanced.

Also, you should see some pretty noticable difference in gaming between 512mb and 1 gig of ram, but go over 1 gig and the difference is pretty hard to tell.

OK boys thanx to your help on my other thread i just found the graphics card i have it...

    Graphics Card
    Nvidia Geforce4 MX440 with AGP8X

there we go! i want to max out the RAM and maybe shell out some major cash for a truly sweet graphics card. since i'm going to head out for a better college and i'm gonna be dealin with some high tech motion capture and animation technologies for movies, games, etc. so i not only need the power graphics wise but also need to be able to play M2:TW in my spare time.

Well if you want a truely sweet graphics card, the best you can get for AGP right now will have to be the 7800GS.

This is actually a 7800GS with a 7900GT core, which means it has 24 pipelines and has much better performance than normal 7800GS. So this card is the top-of-the-line right now for AGP.

One step down would be a normal 7800GS.

This one "only" has 16 pipelines, but its still a beast.

adding ram is always good...but upgrading to 1 gig or to 2 gig of ram will not change your game experience drastically..i mean 1 gig is good..and you might notice a difference comapred to 512mb but from 1 to 2 gig there wont be a noticable change.

thats why i also inquired on a graphics card... plus i know if i get a graphics card then i'll probobly have to get a better power supply, and maybe another fan or two. this is the last time i'm gonna upgrade my comp and it might as well last me at least 2 maybe 3 years pushing it.

There are some newer, budget cards out there, that you can pick up for a reasonable price. I would recommend adding another 512-1gb or RAM and buying a budget card to improve your performance. You don't need that much ram yet, and if you want to improve game performance, you need to bump up your graphics capaibilites a bit. That being said, extra RAM will help your overall performance for games and multi-tasking operations.

Also, make sure that you maintain your PC often, and run virus scans, spyware/adware scans, clean-ups and system maintenance on a regular basis. You'd be surprised how much performance you'd be able to squeeze out of your machine simply by doing that stuff.
