Default How to make other factions a protectorate?

    Hi.
I have a lil problem. in my campain its about 250BC im playing M/H with garrison.
I am right at the end of a cruel war with macedon. only one city in the north is left.
As there are still the greeks wich just happend to declare war at me and cause im planing to go for carthage after that i would like to avoid the germans troubling me for some time. Furthermore i want to have the roman borders a bit of historical correctness, but the macedons whiped out thrace, so some citys were a bit to north ;p.
As a result i tought it would be a good idea to make macedon a protectorate and give them a small "puffer"-belt in the north. however im now sieging their last city like 10 rounds (lifted it once, that i wount default win) with 3 legions. all buildings wich can be destroyed got cut down by my assassins. the public order is at 0% (soemtimes 25 if that garisson script spits out a new garisson.) And well ... actually im now wondering if it is even possible to make macedon a protectorate. I really hope it tough, as otherwise it would **** up a lil the way i wanted to play my campain :>

Don't bother. By the time they are weak enough to agree to your demands you will be able to destroy them easily. If they become your protectorate they will eventually betray you.

That, and as I recall they just get unlimited access to your treasury or some crap. I wouldn't know, I never bothered attempting to make someone my protectorate.

Well macedon would have been an extreme well buffer between me and the germans. their empire is very huge right now. they destroyed all of scythia... and just when i wanted to take sparta and took all "non asian" greek citys they declared war... now i gotta care for them and their 7 full stack armys there instead of goin to war with carthage... i hope my 3 legions from southern greece are there in time ;p

Offer them some coin. About 10,000 should do it. And you usually get it back from them on the next turn anyway.

I made 2 protectorates in my current campaign on easy or medium difficulty. I actually find it pretty easy. All you need to do is hage greater army, not huge but just like 5-6 000 men close to the enemy positions. Maybe besiege 1-2 settlements and kill lots of infantry on the field. When the enemy asks for ceasefire i counteroffer for him demanding to be my protectorate. And he accepts not even wanting denarii or if he wants he need only like 3000 denarii - Macedon is example. Also they had army that could defend them good like 2000-3000 men but knew I was a lot more powerful. I suppose it has a lot to do with your current controlled regions like I had 30+ or/and if they have enemies that crush them and need protection. However Spain didn't become protectorate even offering them cities but they knew I would eventually take them back if I wanted to. Also protectorates help your economy and campaign status to boost up a lot. No need to worry about them betraing you because they know you are more powerful. Also good trade you make with them. No need to protect them but must not attack their allies which is a problem .
