    Default Generals live too long

    Hey, is there anyway I can change the age of death for Generals. It is good because Generals live for a long time and I can use them for longer but nearly all my generals are 80 and my faction leader is 95 (Denethor).

    I guess it's understandable since they would get the best Elfish medicine due to their status but I think it still adds a bit of an unreleastic element.

    Thanks!

    Ufortunately the age limit applies for all generals so whatever age the humans die at the elves and dwarves will too.

    You may think that having Denethor live until he is in his 90's to be unrealstic but what about when Legolas dies of old age at 70?
    "I, Pinkie Pie, declare that these treats are fit for a king, or a queen, or a princess!"
    "Me? Ruin? I'm not the ruiner, I'm the ruinee! Or is it ruinness? Ruinette?"
    "She's ahead of the litter all right. The pick of the litter. The cat's pajamas. Oh wait. Why would Applejack take some poor kitty's pj's? That's not very sporting of her."
    "More balloons! No, that's too many balloons. More candy! No, less candy. Ooh! I know! Streamers!"
    "Oh my gosh. Hold on to your hooves – I am just about to be brilliant!"

    Lore wise Dunedain live three times longer than normal Men; that would translate into 240 to 250 years of average lifespan, given normal human lifespan of 80 years. Aragorn lived for 208 years so having generals at age 80 or 90 isn't far fetched. Aragorn was 84 by the time of the War of the Ring.

    As Iam aware you might have noticed, Middle Earth is not what you would call a "normal" enviroment". There, you can meet wizards, Dragons, Orcs, Elves, Dwarves, Ents, and other interesting creatures that you could not meet in your daily live...
    So, in this same enviroment, Middle Earth people, specially those descendent from the Numenoreans, seem to have longer lives as we, normal guys of our age, seem to live. Just to give you an example, Aragorn, a descendent of true Numenorean blood, was around 80 years old at the time of the Lord of the Ring. And he ruled the Reunited Kingdom till around he was 200 years old. You could argue that he was out of the ordinary, and he was, but people, in Middle Earth, lived longer as our daily standars.
    So, as a summery, (and taking under consideration that the engine does not allowed us to have different limit ages for different factions, but only one in common) generals, in TATW, live that much.

    Have fun having those long lived generals!!!

    If you don't like your generals because they are too old for you, it's the easiest thing in the world to get them killed on a suicide mission.

    FYI, the young generals that you recruit at the very start of your campaign (as Gondor) is most likely ~20.
    By the time of the war, he's already 40.
    It's really sad if you think about it.

    dr_goose91: Yes, you can change how long a general will live. You want the ‘descr_campaign_db’ file. It is under the ‘family_tree’ section:
    Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    Code:
       <family_tree>
          <max_age uint="150"/>
          <max_age_for_marriage_for_male uint="80"/>
          <max_age_for_marriage_for_female uint="50"/>
          <max_age_before_death uint="165"/>
          <max_age_of_child uint="10"/>
          <old_age uint="120"/>
          <age_of_manhood uint="16"/>
          <daughters_age_of_consent uint="16"/>
          <daughters_retirement_age uint="40"/>
          <age_difference_min int="-10"/>
          <age_difference_max int="30"/>
          <parent_to_child_min_age_diff uint="12"/>
          <min_adoption_age uint="16"/>
          <max_adoption_age uint="45"/>
          <max_age_for_conception uint="50"/>
          <age_of_manhood_close uint="14"/>
          <max_number_of_children uint="4"/>
       </family_tree>

    Basically, a general will die somewhere between the ‘max_age uint’ and ‘old_age uint’. The ‘max_age_before_death uint’ is the absolute maximum age a general can reach.

    Here is a pretty standard ‘family_tree’ section:
    Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    Code:
       <family_tree>
          <max_age uint="90"/>
          <max_age_for_marriage_for_male uint="75"/>
          <max_age_for_marriage_for_female uint="40"/>
          <max_age_before_death uint="105"/>
          <max_age_of_child uint="10"/>
          <old_age uint="60"/>
          <age_of_manhood uint="16"/>
          <daughters_age_of_consent uint="16"/>
          <daughters_retirement_age uint="40"/>
          <age_difference_min int="-10"/>
          <age_difference_max int="30"/>
          <parent_to_child_min_age_diff uint="12"/>
          <min_adoption_age uint="20"/>
          <max_adoption_age uint="30"/>
          <max_age_for_conception uint="50"/>
          <age_of_manhood_close uint="14"/>
          <max_number_of_children uint="4"/>
       </family_tree>
    It is quite possible that Denethor may live for another 50 years, and in middle-earth you're not even considered old until the age of 120. It's really just a matter of which bugs you more: elves, dwarves and Dunedain dying young, or men living up to and past 100 years of age.

    Well Denethor died at 89, and he was still in pretty good shape, so it is not unrealistic in his case to make it safely to 100.

    EDIT: And Faramir to take appropriate example lived 120 years, so...

    All the rest about balancing between different races life span has been said already.

    How come the 'maximum' is larger than the 'max' age of the character?
    This is strange.
    So he can live to the very fullest even beyond the max? WIN.

    There can only be one global age; So in order to show that elves, dwarves, numenoreans and the nazgul lived longer than the other races all races have to have such long life spans.

    And remember; Aragorn was over 80, IIRC, during the War of the Rings.. Gandalf was as old as creation itself, the hobbits were in their fifties. Legolas and Gimli weren`t young, either.

    If you think your generals live too long send them on suicide missions when they're 80

    Simple solution: When you feel like they're finished their parts in the Middle-Eath, Give them a few men, locate an enemy army that vastly outnumbers you, and charge them into the battle to meet a most glorious death. Even if they were a crappy general in life, at least in death they'll die as a hero, everyone wins

    I love it that generals live long, it actually allows us to play with them and to get them field experience... It always annoyed me in vanilla how generals would die before I can do anything with them. Plus, it make sense in TA since most live longer in middle earth...
